I keep hearing negative comments about dead heart, not cool.

To me, i think its their best record. It combines all of their past material in a big way. It combines the melody and thoughtfulness of S/T and In Memory with the agression of PoE and DNB.

What's the beef people?

Personnaly, I think dead heart is a very good album... It's not their worst but it's a bit too easy to be their best ! It's a easy listen nothing more... It has a very clear production and standard songwriting structure where it wasn't the case on PoE...

I love the cd but I prefer every other cds but the self-titled to it!

matt described the reason perfectly... the vocals and lyrics are splendid (minus the "THEY TOOK AWAY MY FRIIIEEENNND" line. its just too damn nu and chuggy. it has its awesome songs... Dead Heart, River Dragon, INSIGNIFICANT. other than that, meh

I really like the dead heart album, the riffs aren't as technical but i still like it. The leads are awesome, the solo in river dragon rules.

I won't call it their best album, but it's my favorite Nevremore album. I realize it's very different from their previous releases. The production is the best and individually the songs are all very solid. I realize the song structure is a bit more straight-forward than the other albums, but I think they make up for it (especially Loomis) with the technical solos in songs like Engines of Hate (Loomis's best solo ever) and River Dragon. Also, great songs like We Disintegrate and Narcosynthesis have catchy choruses that still retain the heaviness of underground metal. Dane's vocals are great, as usual, on all the songs, too.

So, different from the other albums, but fucking awesome nonetheless.

OK hey......! I give it loads of shit, but its all in fun.. its the red headed stepchild of the nevermore catalogue. We Disintegrate is one of my favorite tunes.. same with the title track. BUT its very polished, and the song structure is very straight forward, which no one here is disagreeing with.. BUT this all adds up to something which bores me with repeated listens. I can take the album once through,
but wheres the fun in hearing it all again,
I got it all in the first time around.

it's a fun album to listen to when I don't want to think about what I'm listening to or have to be in a certain mood for. if I just want something to bang my head to continuously, it's a good candidate. I think it's a solid release (except a couple of tracks)

my beefs were pretty much already covered. too chuggachugg, production is too clear and heavy and compressed and what the fuck happened to that wicked bass tone we used to have on the old albums? did jim not show up to mixing day so his shit got totally burried? of course, with that guitar tone where is there room for bass? bleh whatever. its just too 'modern' sounding in riffage and production. its got some great songs, sure, but it also contains more mediocre songs than any of their other albums. the performances are all excellent, but the material and production lack something.

How about this... if you were stuck on an island, and you could only bring one Nevermore album, which would it be? Me, I'd bring DNB because it's my favorite. Doesnt mean I think DHiaDW isn't as good as Dreaming, it's just that I personally like Dreaming more.

It's got this compressed feel to it. And it's not my favorite as far as production goes. And in fact, it's the last nevermore that I reach for. I get it out now and then, thinking I need to get over my small issues with it. It just doesn't have the staying power that several of the others have. To me, the production is heavy. And I want to the MUSIC to be heavy. Difference there.

Plus, Loomis is always better when he has someone to play with.

DNB , it was my first and stil my favorite. Now if I could burn a copy and put River Dragon on it then it would be perfect for me or make a comp. with Nevermores best songs onit. Hey thats a good question, If you could make a comp. of Nevermores best songs ,lets say 15 of them, what would they be???
