Is posting preprod stuff taboo around here?

Is it taboo in general? My band has been trying to get a release out for a while but, ya know, work/kids, all that crap put a serious damper on it. I just uploaded a preprod thing I'm not really thrilled about, but I just wanted to get something out there. Does anyone ever do this, or is it one of those things that's frowned upon?

If you have to ask and "are not thrilled about it" then don't release it. There's more than enough shitty music everywhere. No need to clog up people's attention with half-done stuff. Feeding your ego by wanting "to get something out" is never a reason to release anything.

Also, what does it say about your band when you publicly state that you don't even dig it? If a bandmember says that, I'll a) think he just wants someone to say "oh it's not that bad" and b) I'll not check it out.

I have to agree with all of this. This kind of things are quite useless IMO. Not criticizing who does this kind of promotions but I wouldnt do it.

This remind me of those bands who rely heavily on creating a image before having something done.

guys, guys. he just felt posting a prepro demo so he did. go easy.

i personally like it. keep working on your songs!

I'm not thrilled about the mix job, not the music in general. I ask this kind of stuff here because I don't look at this place like a promo hub, I come here for honest answers so I try to present myself as honestly as I can. I thank you guys for your input, regardless of tone, I have a thicker skin than that.

I can't see Jeff's video, it won't play on my crappy ancient phone, but knowing him it's probably something cynical but funny anyway. Thanks to you, too. Fwiw.

Mine was just a funny video about bands using social media in a dumb way. It was only tangentially related to the OP.

Just FTR, this should be here:

and FWIW, I agree with Sami all the way.

Yeah, I wasn't 100% certain between the two subforums where to post this, figured the bar was the safest bet. Based on the responses to your vid, your position was made unspokenly clear, to me at least. I do see a lot of bands doing shit like that (I did eventually see the vid), I'd really hate to fall into that category, though I am guilty of some of it. Spaming useless shit is definitely not a practice of mine, though the vid definitely made me more mindful of what I post. Anyways, thanks again for your input.
