Maybe it was my impresion, but when I saw Opeth in Santa Ana CA. I didn't see Lopez and Mendez enjoying themselves much. Probably is the long tour, but like Mikael said "they are a good rhythm part of the band".

I think there is definite musical chemistry...Mikael may write everything, but the band fleshes it out fantastically.
However, you don't have to like eachother or have fun to necessarily have good musical chemistry...so whether or not they all get along with each other could be another story.

They get along VERY well. At Santa Ana, Mendez was very tired because he hadn't gotten sleep and Lopez was feeling sick. 19 of us got a virus that were on/near that tour for a few days. They always hang out together though.

The impression I get is that the Martins, both being from Uruguay, have more in common with each other than with Mikael and Peter. So although they all get along very well (and they must, seeing as though Mikael and Peter "booted" a couple of guys because they "didn't fit in on a personal level"), the Martins generally hang out together and are more withdrawn, whereas Mikael and Peter are more cheery and probably spend more time together.
Mikael seems outgoing and happy, same with Peter... whereas Mendez seems quiet and subdued, and Lopez seems moody and brooding.
With all those different personalities, they probably all balance out very well.

Oh man I love opeth (really, i do) but when I saw them with nevermore I would have fallen asleep if I didn't like the songs so much. Their live show is just boring!!!
And it's not just becuase they don't move. Dream Theater don't move much but I enjoy their live show.

Lopez and Mendez live in the same place, so they're bound to get along (and know) with each other more than with Mikael and Peter. They are not subdued or moody or brooding, they're just mellow and if you don't realize that, they might seem rude or moody. Remember that a lot of the time you guys see them is right before/after a show when there are 50 people in a short amount of time that all want the attention of the band and that can take a lot out of a person and wear them out. Really, they are all nice guys. Just remember... mellow. hehehe

Oh yeah I realize that definitely. I don't have a problem with them being moody or brooding... there's a big difference between that and being an asshole, which I'm sure they aren't.
Lopez recently graduated as a mature student gaining a First in Chemistry, Mendez also graduated, but only with a 3rd, lets just say things havent been the same since. lets hope this rift doesnt split up the band...
