1984, while copyrighted (and recorded) in 1983, was not released until January 1984. When the Jump video debuted on MTV on New Years Eve 1983, the album had not yet been released.

I don't think that's right. I remember buying the LP in Dec 1983, because I thought it was weird I was buying "1984," which I had read about for a couple months already, before it actually turned 1984.

I can't prove this, obviously, but that's my memory.

Dude, how can you only know "but maybe" 2 or 3 songs from Holy Diver. :err: If you weren't even paying attention, you would at least know Stand up and Shout, Holy Diver, Rainbow in the Dark, and Don't Talk to Strangers!?! Right? I guess you don't like DIO that much, but c'mon!

 Sorry!:saint: Dio has never really done much for me, Like a Few of his solo songs and a few of his sabbath songs ... I Have a buddy that LOVES dio ... but it just does nothing for me ... if it makes ya feel better I do own "The Last in Line" :D

WOW ! it's about the worst heavy metal band I heard.... o_O

anyway I never heard a good metal band out of Belgium :yuk:

hehe, here a thought from a Belgian guy !!!!!
Acid is concidered widely as Belgium's top metal act ever, and they do deserve it !!!
On the other hand there is SOME truth that there are very little Belgian bands that are worth mentioning. Mostly the problems were that Belgian bands didn't seem to be able to find any decent vocalists.
But saying ALL Belgian band suck is simply speculation, it's like me saying ALL Polish bands suck (as I know only a few of them and they aren't that good...). Material from 80's bands like Ostrogoth, Ritual, Drakkar, etc..is pretty good stuff. Have you ever heard Exoto? That's a top notch 90's Thrash band. And watch out for new bands like Viggen, Beyond the Labyrinth, upcoming Patriarch.... (are there any current French bands worth mentioning ??) !!! As for Black Metal, I know there is a VERY know underground scene in Belgium and lotsa bands are concidered very well in the genre. As I don't like Black Metal at all I can't tell wich ones unfortunatly...
So to a certain extend I agree; Belgium doesn't has to offer very much good oldschool stuff, but if you think Acid is the worst band you ever heard I would like to hear wich bands you do think are good than ??

I will have to check that out! Never heard it! :D

:OMG: :OMG: :OMG:

JD I need yo improve your education :p , "On Stage" was of the first CDs I ever had, not only a great exponent of RJD vocal talent but also a very good live album. The versions of 'Kill The King', 'Starstruck' and 'Still I'm Sad' are really ass-kickers.

True its a great album but; around the same period another live Rainbow album was recorded called "Live in Germany" and that is even better. For one the production is much better; read heavier, and it has 'Starsgazer" on it.

See more about it here:

Indeed.
That live version of "Still I'm Sad" is, in my opinion, THE best live recording ever released. It's magical and mystical and leaves a lasting impression!

Dio's best years were, IMO, 1975-1983 (Rainbow, Sabbath and Holy Diver).

Yes there are (ask Wyvern), please let us not get into a useless french/belgium rivalry my friend :) I fully understand that you were upset though, and I also strongly disagree with the post you're replying to.

I like some Belgian metal myself, Ancient Rites being one of the best live acts I've ever seen

Very talented band with a distinctive sound IMO.
Acid were cool, Ostrogoth, Killer, Drakkar and Channel Zero as well, now there's Trouble Agency and some more... go Belgium! ;)

I certainly wasn't going into a Frence/Belgium rivalry...Had you in my mind Fang, knew you would back me up.... Last line from me about current French bands was a bit too much, written in pure rage :D

Speaking of French bands I just recorded Manigance "Memoires...Live" side by side with "Sign De Vie" :hotjump:

BTW, there are any Belgium bands singing in French or Dutch?

I have some old recordings of Belgian bands singing in French (Asphalte amongst one) . There's one band I know of that sang in Dutch, a band from Holland that was called Vandale, and it was a very good one !!
Also some recent Black Metal bands sing in Dutch, but even I can't understand their growls !!

PS: I do dig that Rata Blanca I got from you, good vocals, good guitars !!!!

The same in English, Japanese or Arab. Thta's the advantage of black/death...it's globalized! :tickled:

Actually I always felt that Barilari (the actual singer) is not a great one, but he does his job well. The guitar player (Giardino) on the other hand it's the best from Argentina IMO, and quite better than a lot outside the country.
