What do you say Glenn? You like bands like the Eagles, Jimmy Buffet and Bon Jovi. I know none of those bands would consider a festival. But there other bands of a much smaller caliber and/or new that have alot of potential. They are just looking for a shot. Maybe something on a smaller scale. Yes, I know there are other festivals that handle some of this crossover like Nearfest, ROSfest and CalProg. But none your far south. Just a thought from another fan of more than metal.

Actually, we were joking last night at a black-metal show here that if Glenn -- or someone of Glenn's festival-planning caliber -- could arrange a good extreme-metal fest in the US, it'd be reallly cool. Too many of the extreme-metal festivals here have died from disorganization or just plain bad business dealings (Jack Koshit's fests, anyone?)

One of the things that separates Glenn from so many promoters in the biz is his unfailing honesty. Sure, he can be secretive as all hell and an incredible tease ("Three of the ten bands this year have seven vowels in their name"), but he's honest. With bands and with fans. He can't always tell us everything, but what he says has always been true. :kickass:

If there were 12 bands at this proposed fest, here's my picks:

Headliners: Living Colour and King's X

FNM
Chicago
Jeff Scott Soto
Jean-Michel Jarre
Dan Fogelberg
Journey
Styx(original lineup)
Foreigner(w/Lou)
Survivor
Cheap Trick

Showcase:
CSNY
PPM
Kenny Rogers
Glen Campbell

I'd be for a hard rock festival with bands like Wig Wam, Brother Firetribe, Crash Diet, Poodles, Jaded Heart, etc.

There are numerous black metal/death metal festivals around the US but none as successful as ProgPower. Heck, Madfest was originally an extreme metal fest! The problem, like you said, is most of these shows don't have solid promoters behind them, OR a solid roster... one or two really good bands, with 90 crap bands doesn't work very well. Chicago Metal Devastation Fest is pretty good, but all underground bands that no one but locals know. (http://www.myspace.com/chicagometaldevastationfest)

If I knew people would come, I'd make another extreme metal fest, but I already know that there isn't enough demand for these bands to make it work. It works on a small local level, but at the size of a PP-style fest.. no way (unless it's a bunch of legendary bands!)

Styx(original lineup)

Unfortunately, not even Glenn would be able to pull this off, as John Panozzo passed away several years ago. (edit: as did John Curulewski, one of the original guitarists)

It would be awesome to see the rest of the guys together, though!

Most of the fests don't do too well, but Maryland Death Fest is basically the ProgPower of the death metal world.

OOPS! Oh well, how about just bring back Dennis, then? I'd settle for that. BTW, the spirits of the dearly departed ones in the band are still invited nonetheless.

OK, sold!

Styx was actually my first stop on the train to Metaldom, so I will always have a special place in my heart for these guys.

Hmmm…I think I need to go put on “Miss America” now...

Styx without Dennis DeYoung just isn't Styx IMHO. He and Tommy Shaw defined what Styx was in their glory years.

About a AOR concert...don't many of these bands still tour on a regular basis? What's left of REO Speedwagon make the state fair circuit. Joan Jett played a few fairs too.

Wouldn't this effort be too close to a Rocklahoma?

After the bitter lawsuit between DeYoung and the rest of Styx? There is a better chance of the NAACP giving its Image award to David Duke than DeYoung playing with Styx again.

Same goes for me as they were my original "favorite band" when I was 12-13. Loved the Pieces of Eight album. Unfortunately I also learned that even your favorite bands can sell out, spearheaded by DeYoung's pompous ballads like "Babe" :Puke:.

Have to throw my support in for a melodic metal/rock festival with bands such as Frontline, Evidence One, Gotthard, Pink Cream 69, Shakra, Danger Danger, Victory, Bonfire, Axel Rudy Pell, Jeff Scott Soto, etc. I would hope that Enchant would be given a chance at such a festival as well.

I wouldnt be interested in a light to AOR fest...but Id be all for a Heavy AOR to Hard Rock fest like many bands listed in this thread.

I have been going nuts over the last few FIREFESTS in the UK.

Speaking of check out the new band SEVEN TEARS featuring the old PLATITUDE keyboardist called "IN EVERY FROZEN TEAR"! Unbelievable Progressive Melodic Hard Rock!
