He should play in an orchestra, every top orchestral musician is practically a god on their instrument and can sight read blindfolded from 100 yards away, likewise you don't see Itzhak Perlman or Yo-Yo Ma writing their own good music.
Good guitarist doesn't = good musician/music.
To me Vai just seems like [if orchestras had guitarists] he would make a good orchestral player.
