sorry i know nothing of your "viking metal" but from the bands I know it rules

edit: ok fine fine i understand, I wouldn't say "must have" either, I thought this was the "Bands to check out" thread since i've been seeing a lot of shit/"non must-haves" posted

just checking up:

1. Skyclad rules, especially Irrational ANthems, Prince of the Poverty Line, and Jonah's Ark

2. I've the Gjallarhorn album, which is a side project of the Doomsword fellows. Pure Hammerheart worship. Wasn't bad, but there are better out there.

3. The Dawn of the Dying Sun is an unheralded classic. Man, so epic. Barbie my ass, this album fucks Barbie in every hole. Hades>>>Hades Almighty

4. Figures Erik would think Turisas is stupid, though he's probably heard half a song from a demo or something. But yes, Turisas is stupid. They are stupid fun. Nothing more, nothing less.

5. I piss in GLen Benton's hair. What a fag.

Can anybody tell me if any of the albums by Rivendell are worth purchasing?

Depends. A "poor man's Summoning" is semi-true. Both bands' material is exclusively about LOTR. Actually, Rivendell is a one-man band, and sound more akin to a folkier, less-viking Falkenbach. Lots of clean vocals (eerily similar to Falkenbach) and of course black metal vocals. Every song is pretty much mid paced.

I have both albums, and Elven Tears is easily better than Ancient Glory. Howevr, Ancient GLory has the song "Aragorn Son of Arathorn", which is simply majestic. But Elven Tears has some greats like Misty Mountains, The Song of Eldamar and The King's Triumph.

The new one, Farewell - The Last Dawn, will be out later this month. I like the band, but the albums are hardly essential and pretty much for folk/viking diehards like myself.
