yea, I thought of putting "Folk" in the title, but I don't want "folk metal" and pagan/viking metal without a folk influence doesn't exist (or, if it does, I spit upon it)

hopefully this will bear more fruit than the recommends thread, since this wont be only seen for a day or two, like page three-hundred-and-fuck-knows in that thread.

I hate polka/troll shit (even Volkolak's vocals are getting a bit too troll for me)

bands I've already heard:
Adorned Brood, Arkona, Asmegin, Lemuria, Nebelborn, Wolfchant, Woodtemple, Kromlek, Blind Guardian, Butterfly Temple, Einherjer, Eluveitie, Empyrium, Ensiferum, Equilibrium, Falchion, Falkenbach, Finntroll, Fjoergyn, Folkearth, Glittertind, Heathen Dawn, Heidevolk, Helheim, Hollenthon, Isengard, Kroda, Kyprian's Circle, Lumsk, Månegarm, Menhir, Mithotyn, Nachtfalke, Nomans Land, Odroerir, Ondskapt, Orphaned Land, Otyg, Pagan Reign, Runic, Skyclad, Solgrav, Stormlord, Tiwaz, Thiasos Dionysos, Thronar , Thundra, Thyrfing, Thrudvangar, TrollfesT, Týr, Vintersorg, Volkolak, Woods Of Ypres, Wyrd, XIV Dark Centuries

*also, Agalloch, and Amon Amarth, and probably some others that don't fit the genre*

Bands I particularly didn't like:
Lemuria, Kromlek, Blind Guardian, Finntroll, Kroda, TrollfesT, Týr

Bands I particularly like:
Wolfchant, Ensiferum, Equilibrium, Kyprian's Circle, Månegarm, Mithotyn, Nomans Land, Pagan Reign, Thyrfing, Wyrd.

What should I check out?

Kampfar seem no more viking/folk to me than Kyprian's Circle

I think I've got some Graveland albums from years ago somewhere, I always confuse them in my head with DarkThrone or something, so I'll have to give them a proper listen.

Iuvenes I've never heard of, will be sure to check 'em out, cheers.

Odal
Hel
Riger
Die Saat
Bergthron
Isenburg
Obscurity
Twin Obscenity
Mael Mordha
Nazgul
Inchiuvatu
Hellveto
Temnozor
Nokturnal Mortum
Slavland

I didn't care for Nokturnal Mortum (Symphonic BM to me, wouldn't call it folk or pagan)

Hellveto I've heard, but I can't remember liking any of their songs.

I just got one of Temnozor's albums, but haven't yet heard it

I've been meaning to check out Riger, Die Saat, and Bergthron

The other nine I'll add to the list. thanks.

very arabic stuff to me. I'm more into the finnish sorta stuff, not arab or celtic or anything like that.

"Weltanschauung" was the only song of that album which I really cared for.

It isn't really Arabic, more Slavic actually - but hmm try out Glittertind I guess.

early Aeternus
Bak de Syv Fjell
Bathory
Belenos
Bran Barr
Nydvind
Hades
Ha Lela
Lord Wind
Morrigan
Mayhemic Truth
Obtest
Poccolus

Mayhemic Truth was no where near as good as Morrigan, but Morrigan are one of my favs in my Black Metal folder, I haven't heard anything folky/viking/pagan from them, and I think I've heard all their albums.

Bathory is pretty overrated to me, I've heard all their shit.

Nydvind I'm checkin out this week.

Belenos are ok, is "Spicilège" their best album?

the others I'll add to stuff to search for :)
