Your Favorite Viking/Folk Metal Band

I hadn't heard about this band yet, sound great!

Yes I've been a fan for a while. The new album is surprising though. It has trance elements and lots more keyboards, but they don't really overuse them. No real cheese as they're more complimentary than anything. But they have dropped some of the 'weird' stuff they used to put in their older songs. In essence I guess the folky stuff has waned but they still manage to create and keep an atmosphere. But do check out their older material...it's pretty solid.

Suidakra & Heathen Foray are definitely 2 of my favorites.

Haven't listened to the new Suidakra yet though, hoping to get to that soon!

It's here, and it's fucking epic as hell:

well first off, viking metal usually refers to a black metal subgenre. Amon is death metal. Even Johann Hegg said this:

"We play death metal. We write about vikings so, therefore, some refer us to viking metal, but I have no idea what that is. I can't imagine the Vikings were into metal at all except on the swords and stuff. And musically, I guess they only played these strange lip instruments and some bongos or whatever."

"We don’t really see ourselves as one of those bands doing pagan folklore music"
