I know thers a good amount of black metal mixed bands but I prefer just pure pagan bands. I know I can find if any of black metal with pagan elements in the black metal threads. And so far thats pretty much the majority of pagan metal I found. Pretty much black metal bands with folk elements.

So... I'm confused. I basically listed black metal bands with folk elements. Of course there are other elements strewn throughout.

There is no actual genre called "pagan" metal. It has no distinct sound. The only band I ever see referred to strictly as "pagan" metal is Primordial. Have you heard them?

well, I have to say you should avoid the word 'viking' then, because that tends to mean 'pagan black metal'.

Well they may be following the 'oracle'

one heuristic for estimating the reliability of information on a wiki page is to look at how recently it was edited (i.e. added to, or possibly its existing content disputed)

"This page was last modified on 30 March 2009"

...could very well be because of a back-n-forth of little douchebags who don't know the genres being put in check, and putting back their idiot opinions...

I particularly agreed with this part of their outline of "Characteristics":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_metal said:
Both clean vocals and death growls can be found in Viking metal and the "speed varies from mid-pace to a fast pace."[5] Like folk metal bands, Viking metal acts "generally utilize some acoustic and other unusual instruments in addition to the traditional metal instruments."

Amon Amarth really lack everything which would set them apart from mere 'Melodic Death Metal with war/Norse themed lyrics'.

If we were to "view Viking metal as more of a lyrical or conceptual genre than a musical one", as wiki writes "some commentators" do, a simple re-recording of vocals with new lyrics could turn Slipknot's latest album into Viking Metal... surely this should demonstrate that this criteria would be a disgraceful and misleading one.

I can only find a live recording of Kalevala, but they don't sound anything like Arkona. Unless that song is a one off or something.

points of similarity:
(1) Russian (2) Folk Metal with (3) female vocals

points of difference:
Kalevala is less metal
Kalevala is more awesome.
