I'm 34 and came up on this stuff as much as the At The Gates and Carcass stuff from Europe and whatnot, and I just find it funny that you bag on them so hard. Sure, the fashion and bro-calls are a joke, but honestly, there are a lot less genuine bands out there... particularly the ones that think everything's a fucking opportunity for a lame ironic, hipster joke (Iwrestledabearonce much, or Acadia Strain :Smug . My only gripe is that the hip hop rage of Brother Ali, Sage Francis, or EL-P hasn't been transferred over to metal in the modern era quite correctly. It's a gap that exists because I believe the metal & hardcore underground is utterly out of touch with the way more serious hip hop underground. And I love Biohazard AND Emmure haha, both bands are good but totally different types of music, Biohazard were really a hardcore band, Emmure are a deathcore band :')

This. I find it REALLY ironic that a bunch of you guys spent a whole thread shitting all over Emmure, then you come up defending Biohazard as "the shit".
So I can't hate Emmure AND like Biohazard? I have to either hate them both or love them both?

There are absolutely NO parallels between the two bands. Everyone with the same sentiment as your post is talking like it's the "same shit, different era" and I couldn't disagree more. Biohazard were something of substance when they came out. It wasn't "holy shit!" ground breaking but it was tangible in its "real"-ness at least. It wasn't a bunch of dudes smashing genres together for the sake of it, it was just a hardcore band with a different spin on things and people dug the fuck out of it.
Now I'm not using this as a template for why everyone should hate Emmure but it's my reason for why I do hate Emmure: It sounds so fucking contrived it's unreal. There is nothing of substance to the music, the lyrical content, the fans and their whole "ethos" (if they have one?). I can't... grasp it. It does nothing for me.
To put it another way, I'll use this example - I don't connect with rap music. It couldn't be more of the antithesis to everything I am. It is literally the anti-Matt, down to the very last shred of how it came about. It doesn't speak to me, it doesn't move me, it doesn't sympathise with me, it doesn't understand me, just as I do not understand it, it is culturally, ethically, and morally on a different plane of existence to me. I find it useless for me. That is how I feel about Emmure, but not about Biohazard. Just because two bands both have members who wear baseball caps does not mean they are the same style, spanning 20 years

Actually those who say "I don't like rap" are generally pigeonholing hip hop as a genre, and are as unaware that it goes as many paces as metal (notorious for outsiders narrowly knocking into just "misanthropy" and "devil worship" and whatnot)... but if it makes you feel better to think all of it is what mainstream hip hop portrays just to have an "antithesis" within your particular musical dogma, then have fun with that.When did you start listening to metal? Last week?
Also, your broad sweeping statements of hip hop are off base, but I can't force you to explore the genre any more than the next guy.
