I've always dug the shit out of this snare...

lol I know. They're really a hardcore band more than anything, they just ended up getting lumped in with metal acts because they were much "heavier" than most hardcore bands at the time. The rapping was, let's face it, a LOT more tolerable than most of the later rap-rock crossover acts. It was more just a typical hardcore shout but set in a more rhythmic accent, but musically it's just straight up hardcore

One of my favorite albums of all time came out in 1991. The band is KAT and album title is "Bastard":

I reference the snare on this album as the "pissed off snare" sound. The drums on this album are great.

+1 .. I take crabcore and emmure any day over that haha.

This. I find it REALLY ironic that a bunch of you guys spent a whole thread shitting all over Emmure, then you come up defending Biohazard as "the shit". :err: I'm 34 and came up on this stuff as much as the At The Gates and Carcass stuff from Europe and whatnot, and I just find it funny that you bag on them so hard. Sure, the fashion and bro-calls are a joke, but honestly, there are a lot less genuine bands out there... particularly the ones that think everything's a fucking opportunity for a lame ironic, hipster joke (Iwrestledabearonce much, or Acadia Strain :Smug:) . My only gripe is that the hip hop rage of Brother Ali, Sage Francis, or EL-P hasn't been transferred over to metal in the modern era quite correctly. It's a gap that exists because I believe the metal & hardcore underground is utterly out of touch with the way more serious hip hop underground.

'm digging that snare so much :D And I love Biohazard AND Emmure haha, both bands are good but totally different types of music, Biohazard were really a hardcore band, Emmure are a deathcore band :')

So I can't hate Emmure AND like Biohazard? I have to either hate them both or love them both?

Can we stop with the tenuous era connections please!? Ok...

There are absolutely NO parallels between the two bands. Everyone with the same sentiment as your post is talking like it's the "same shit, different era" and I couldn't disagree more. Biohazard were something of substance when they came out. It wasn't "holy shit!" ground breaking but it was tangible in its "real"-ness at least. It wasn't a bunch of dudes smashing genres together for the sake of it, it was just a hardcore band with a different spin on things and people dug the fuck out of it.

Now I'm not using this as a template for why everyone should hate Emmure but it's my reason for why I do hate Emmure: It sounds so fucking contrived it's unreal. There is nothing of substance to the music, the lyrical content, the fans and their whole "ethos" (if they have one?). I can't... grasp it. It does nothing for me.

To put it another way, I'll use this example - I don't connect with rap music. It couldn't be more of the antithesis to everything I am. It is literally the anti-Matt, down to the very last shred of how it came about. It doesn't speak to me, it doesn't move me, it doesn't sympathise with me, it doesn't understand me, just as I do not understand it, it is culturally, ethically, and morally on a different plane of existence to me. I find it useless for me. That is how I feel about Emmure, but not about Biohazard. Just because two bands both have members who wear baseball caps does not mean they are the same style, spanning 20 years

Wait can I just ask one thing? What the hell is crabcore?

How do Crabcore? ¯\o_O

See, I liked (liked, not loved) Biohazard, but hardly thought they were all that groundbreaking... and then I grew up in NY, and my highschool band featured a college radio guy that was constantly bringing in all sorts of underground NYC hardcore stuff during the same time peroid. It was pretty homogeneous as well, if you were bouncing around such circles. :Smug:

Also, your broad sweeping statements of hip hop are off base, but I can't force you to explore the genre any more than the next guy. Actually those who say "I don't like rap" are generally pigeonholing hip hop as a genre, and are as unaware that it goes as many paces as metal (notorious for outsiders narrowly knocking into just "misanthropy" and "devil worship" and whatnot)... but if it makes you feel better to think all of it is what mainstream hip hop portrays just to have an "antithesis" within your particular musical dogma, then have fun with that.

I know, that's exactly what I said? I said "It wasn't "holy shit!" ground breaking....".

I made absolutely NO broad sweeping statements about hip hop OR rap. I did however make a statement about my opinion of it, whilst never once mentioning what I think hip hop or rap actually entails. So... how is that a statement about the genre? Not to mention it was used as an example of comparison rather than an actual truth, as I have been known in the past to "get home with the downies"... :erk:

Well its not the 90's anymore, fag.

That was the 90's man, that was considered the shit!

Dumbass

I don't see why people are jumping on other people's case about their own opinions. I mean, that's what they are... OPINIONS! Everyone is entitled to his/her own. If you don't like it, who the fuck cares. Mattayus shouldn't have to defend his statements, nor should anyone here. Just because you don't like what someone says doesn't necessarily mean they are wrong (unless it's actual facts that are wrong), it just means that his how they feel and what they think of said matter. But you can't fault an opinion-based statement as being incorrect... it just doesn't make sense. Doing so also shows your immaturity level and lack of an open mind to accept other viewpoints on any topic.
