Jackson V for $300?

Just wanted a few outside opinions here....

A friend is selling his Jackson V, didn't get all the details, but stock p'ups, floating trem, locking nut, etc. $300 seems like a pretty reasonable price. I'm not a huge fan of V's.....but is this offer too good to pass up?

I have one of them, a kvx10, from before they added tremolos, and for the money it is a very decent guitar imo. The main thing that bothers me about it is that it is very off-balance (the neck sinks if you don't hold it up). The thin neck also isn't perfect for your typical lowfret chords; I prefer thicker necks for that. With that said, the guitar plays nice and the higher frets are easy to reach if you like soloing. I haven't had any problems with it in the 8 or so years I've had it.

You may want to change the stock pups at some point though. The stock ones didn't really do it for me. Exchanged them with the oh so original emg81+85 combo, and that improved it a lot.

As a reference, I play an LTD EC1000 now, which I absolutely love, but I enjoy playing the kvx still.

Thanks for that! I've played Gibson V's before and thought they played nicely. Right now I'm playing an LTD M300FM and am pretty happy with it. I could use a secondary or backup axe as my older Ibanez S-Series is pretty fucking beat to shit at this point.....

You're gonna have to specify which V it is if you want opinions on whether its a good deal dude.

If its any variety of bolt on MIJ King V I guess thats an OK deal. One of the older Professionals (King V STD, etc.) would be better than one of the newer ones. Still, for $300, there is no bolt on production King V that Jackson ever made that I would personally buy at that price. Unless it had some crazy mojo or something.

If it's a NT Pro though, you should buy it immediately for $300.

That's what I was thinking - without a model number a value based judgement is pretty tough. If say it was a Jackson RR5 (retails generally over a $1000 here in the US) for $300 it would be a very nice deal, a Jackson JS32 - not so much as they sell new for a little over $300 and a Jackson JS32T King V for even less than $300. The deal is in the model number and condition.

Looks like it's a Jackson JS32 King V with the Floyd Rose option (it comes in two flavors - fixed bridge or with a Floyd rose) - both American Musical Supply, zZsounds.com, and MusiciansFriend have that guitar for $299 with gig bag included so if thats what it is it's not really a "deal".

Yeah, don't go for it without bringing the price down some. With a little bit of timing I got a KVX10 for about $295, and it's a decent guitar. I don't know about the JS series, but they are the Jackson low end.
