Jorn-Dio 2 full tracks (Don't talk to Strangers/Invisible) if u want to listen

While I really love Jorn's voice, and think he's a fantastic vocalist, I fail to see the appeal of this disc. If I want to hear Dio's music, why would I possibly want to hear it sung by someone other than Dio?

You answered your own question. Your focus is on the music. The majority of Jorn's fans focus on his voice regardless of what music happens to be playing in the background.

I appreciate that he has some hardcore fans out there, who would listen to him sing a grocery list. My inquiry was more about the broader group that this is intended to appeal to. Death tends to put people up on a pedestal. So I wonder if the less hardcore music fans will want to hear someone else take a swag at these songs.

Most of the old school Dio fans will be like ... Jorn who? I can't imagine this disc appealing to a large group of metal fans. It appeals even less to me than a new original Jorn disc would, but then Jorn solo stuff doesn't much appeal to me anyway because the guy can't consistantly write good songs.

Much as I love Jorn's work, I agree heavily with this. I look forward more to Jorn's work with OTHER writers (ala Avantasia, Magnus Karlsson, Masterplan) than I do to his "solo" discs. Maybe it's a touch of burnout, with the amount of work he does, but his solo work is starting to sound a little stale compared to his "side projects".

As for the tribute album, I don't think this will reach out to thousands of new folks, but tribute albums rarely do I imagine. When you are a long time fan of a band / singer, tributes are often more novelty than introduction......

I guess this forum doesnt realize that there is in fact a broader spectrum of fans out there. I am on many forums, and Jorn has been mentioned at every one of them. Jorn appeals to many of the Hard Rock fans, and many Melodic Metal fans as well.

Why listen to Jorn cover Dio songs? Well why listen to anyone cover anyones song? Its called a tribute/cover song. Some people don't like listening to covers, and other people like to hear them.

Many bands like to show there appreciation of other bands they like or other songs they like by covering them.

this whole album is fantastic. IF you don;t like it or don;t want to hear it, great move on...This is a tribute of Dio's music by Jorn. Ronnie James, along with David Coverdale, is one of Jorn Lande's vocal heroes. Jorn and his band did DEAD on, beautiful renditions of these songs which are mixed between popular and more obscure from Dio's solo catalog.

I'm a sucker for metal bands covering songs. With that said, I'm a huge Jorn fan and can't wait to hear this tribute album. If there's anyone fitting to perform a Dio song other than Dio himself, it's Jorn Lande.

...by the way, these two covers are "Godly"! Regardless of what some people say, Jorn's voice isn't a carbon copy of RJD by any means. With that said, Jorn's voice/style have similar qualities, which make Jorn appeal to many fans of the Raibow In The Dark himself.

No denying that the dude's got a great voice, but man I hate what's been done to one of my favorite songs (DTTS). Waaaay overproduced. Left me longing for the real thing: RJD and Viv Campbell.

A cover song is one thing. A cover album is something different.

I enjoy it when an artists whose music I appreciate breaks it up a bit with a great reimagining of an old song or a dead on tribute. But a cover album is a different animal. I typically select what I want to listen to based on my mood. Personally, I can't see being in a mood where I want to hear Dio, but don't want to hear Dio sing.

If everyone just moved on from every difference of opinion, threads wouldn't be threads, they be a single post with no responses. The net would be a very dull place. Do you really want a dull internet? :loco:

Since I'm not terribly familiar with Dio's catalog, (in fact, when I first heard BG's cover of Don't Talk to Strangers, I had no real idea who Dio really was, except for an old school singer.) I'm probably going to pick this up. If the songs are performed well by Jorn (lol how could they not be everything he does is a masterpeice i wish he would sing to me omg twilight-like fanboy) maybe I'll go back and check out some of Dio's stuff. As it is, I don't care to listen to most metal pre 1995 because I don't particularly care for the style or the sound, and large catalogs intimidate me.

This is awesome. Jorn sounds fantastic and to hear some old dio covers done with Jorn's spin to them is amazing. this will be a must buy for me.

VERY NICE and way to go Jorn.

I think that's the good thing about these covers for those who were perhaps too young to get into Dio back in the heyday. Sometimes it is assumed that these songs are familiar and old hat, but not everyone has that background. I know that both Lana Lane's and Dream Theater's covers of "Stargazer" really gave me a strong desire to pick up some Rainbow with Dio, which I wasn't all that familiar with beforehand.

If it gets more people into Dio, I don't see how this is a bad thing.
