OK, my second review for a forthcoming album of 2006. This is a crude mix promo so only the 3rd and 4th songs are presented as they are going to be, the rest are not very good to review regarding production quality so I’ll do my best to describe them.

We Brought The Angels Down: mid-paced melodic song with lots of energy and a great guitar work. I wonder if it’s Moren or Lofstad (or both), I’m so eager to find out in the booklet I need this album out now!

Blacksong: mid-paced song with incredible good guitar work in the solo, and Jorn vocals are top notch as always.

Stormcrow: great entrance, fast and melodic song. A mix of classic metal and good power with a demonic guitar playing that will attract fans of good soloing so much missed these days, and I’ll dare to say that it’s a perfume of Whitesnake under the sheets too ;)

End Of Time: another Jorn was here song. As a fan I’m absolutely delighted with this and the guitar work towards the end it’s just great.

Duke Of Love: Jorn is Jorn but even a die hard fan like me has to acknowledge that he sounds a lot like David Coverdale (or like he used to) and in this song the comparison is very accurate. Only the song is less bluesy than Whitesnake but undoubtedly influenced by the classic band.

Burning Chains: softly starts with acoustic guitar and develops beautifully into a passionate tender song but I’ll not call it a ballad. Lovers of good guitar melodies will dig this one a lot, and its changes from energy to tenderness are very well equilibrated.

After The Dying: the formula continues with melody and mid-pace tempo. Reminds me a bit of some songs from Ark second album (which is logical) but without the complex harmonies of Ark. The guitar work shines again, I’m not saying this is about shredding or old guitar gods, is just good played guitar with heart and soul.

Midnight Madness: sometimes Jorn gets a bit “darker” on his composition I can’t describe it simply but if you have listened to his previous albums some songs have a different more obscure vibe and this one goes on the same path.

Are You Ready?: a Thin Lizzy cover which brings very mixed feelings. The song is played exactly like the original which to me is sign of respect and quality, and Jorn’s voice is top notch but is not Phil Lynnot so is good and awkward at the same time (do I make sense?). I love the fact nevertheless that he chooses a less known song from TL (actually I only have the live version in “Alive & Dangerous”) and that again it’s played by the numbers, astounding!

Starfire: don’t know why Jorn decided to re-record the title song from his debut solo album, moreover considering that both Moren and Bendiksen played on the original too. But I can only be happy as a pig in shit since is one of the most loved songs by Jorn and always hit me hard and deep.

You will know and instantly you’re into a Jorn album. If you had listened to the previous ones you’ll get my point. This is not Masterplan or the project with Russell Allen, this is pure Jorn by the book. Absolutely brilliant and highly recommended for 2006.

I would like to see Jorn getting involved in a Ayreon project in future, that should be the perfect combination !
