just when I though they couldn't get more annoying....

It's funny that people get so frustrated when they see others enjoying something they themselves don't like. There's so many people(on forums or elsewhere) who will tell you they don't give a shit about either GH or Dragonforce, and yet they never shut the fuck up about either one.

I swear, readings threads like this almost always results in a few dozen posts consisting of mediocre musicians patting themselves on the back because they play a real guitar/bass/drums, etc. Man, it's a fucking video game. It's like people feel threatened by it or something.
Want some sand for your vagina rocky?

Agreed. +1 to Matt, too.

I play GTR2 and it's a simulation racing game and I'm decent in it, but I still don't think I'd be a speed demon with a real ferrari at Monza.

Well yeah. Exactly. I doubt I'd be able to shoot fireballs or swing two swords with expert precision. But the annoying thing about Guitar Hero nuts is that some of them earnestly think that they're musicians.

Sure, there is going to be an increase in kids trying to learn the real instrument. But what is different as apposed to kids from the mid 90's and back, is that the new kids are more than likely assuming that it can't be much different or much harder. They'll take a lesson or two, and then at least 95% will quit, when they realize that they're not "guitar heroes" yet. Guitarists from the 90s back- listened to an ARTIST/ALBUM. They didn't run into their little brother/sister's room after hearing Petrucci, Eddie Van Halen, etc.. and grab that plastic guitar in their toybox! Many kids these days beg to learn an instrument, and when they get the lessons, and realize it takes work and concentration, they lose interest. Hell, half the parents probably say "that's ok, little fellah, mommie's proud of you.....here, have a trophy for your one practice effort! And let's go to McDonald's, and get you a bag full of burgers, and yes...you can have Taco Bell, too!"

You're not describing anything new/caused by Guitar Hero. The overwhelming majority of people who have ever picked up an instrument (especially guitar) never really got anywhere with it. I'm sure the actual head count of these people has increased, but so has the number of people who have gotten one and actually acheived some degree of skill. I doubt that the balance has really changed much between the two either. There are also a lot of other things that contribute to that besides guitar hero. I don't see guitar hero having a negative effect on music/guitar anymore than I see the madden games having a negative effect on sports. It's no more of a time wasting, productivity killing passtime than any other video game. It's a fun social thing for some people, has exposed a younger generation to some pretty cool music that they otherwise might not have been exposed to, and it's getting a lot of kids to at least try to learn an instrument.

 !!!!

the only thing i do NOT like about the megaman collection (1-8) is they actually changed a lot of the programming for damage (especially noticable in megaman 2). Since they have easy and hard difficulty for all games (which was only an option in mega man 2 of the original nes ones if i'm not mistaken) it fucked thigns up... and i'm surprised it did that much damage to 2. But the hard requires more hits on enemies (metal man requires 2 metal blades to be defeated, not one) but on easy things are ridiculously easy to destroy when they shouldn't be.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't think it bothers me all that much though. I'm just stoked that I was able to get all the original Mega man games without hunting down an NES, SNES and all 8 games (don't even get me started on how much it still stings that my mom sold off both systems and all the games years back without consulting me first:mad:). And to whoever said that the NES games were hard....no fuckin' kidding. I still thing the first one is the hardest game in the series.

Hardest one in the series? How about hardest game IN EXISTENCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well although Meedley is right, the problem is that these kids are wasting their time learning Guitar Hero when they could be learning real guitar. But then, it's not like there's a shortage of guitarists anyway. We'll be in deeper shit if they invent Bass/Drummer hero.

Yeah, thinning the herd for the rest of us might not be/probably isn't a bad thing. I guess my only thing with it is that while kids could use their Guitar Hero time to learn a real instrument, the same could be said about any video game, television, internet, etc. I can see why Guitar Hero stands out in that argument, it's probably easier to see guitar hero vs. guitar than Final Fantasy vs. guitar. I think it's a problem for people to be spending too much time with ANY video game, internet, tv, etc. and I think that most people singling out guitar hero are doing so because they somehow feel threatened by it or take it personally. I just don't see the problem with it in the sense that it's a fun party-game (which seems to be a popular genre these days) and has had some positive effects as far as I'm concerned.

Don't forget the new sensation:Rockband! it has drums, bass, guitar, and vocals :p

I don't think REAL guitarists are exactly threatened by the game. Like I said back a few pages, some GH players will think that this makes them all of a sudden-rock/guitar "knowledgable". And, some will assume guitar playing isn't much different or harder....take one or two lessons, and realize their mistake, and quit. I've actually seen a bunch of these kiddies, hanging out at the nearby mall, and wearing their emo-core band shirts, playing the GH game(in the best buy store) with a smug look on their faces. It's just a little weird that in this day and age, to see them doing this. To each their own, if it's fun for them, knock yourself out!
