Kamelot...the Black Halo...awsome!

So far from Kamelot I own Epica, Dominion, and Siege Perilous. Epica is my favorite of the three and I have high hopes for this one. I think I will like it alot when I get it.
You are missing the two stellar discs - The Fourth Legacy and Karma !!

Question here when you pre-order something like a month or two early do, you get it early. Or do you all just have promom cpois of The Black Halo

When you pre-order you generally do not get it early. Let's say an album came out on April first and I pre-ordered it in March; the company that I pre-ordered it from would either 1) ship it to me whenever they get it in (which may mean I get it early) or 2) ship it out on April first, which is when it was due out.

Does that help at all?

We're just "Especially, special" people so we have a promo copy already! :)

IMO, when a band puts out a release that you don't really care for, history has shown that they never really recapture that spark and get better again.
Judas Priest - 'British Steel'...brilliant :headbang:
Followed by - 'Poin Of Entry'...zzzzzzzzzz
Then came - 'Screaming For Vengeance'....brilliant :kickass:
Later - 'Turbo'...Turbo Lover - Parental Guidance...ugh :yuk:
Later still - 'Painkiller'...brilliant once again. :worship:

It can happen. :)

haha, true!

I liked what I heard from Black Halo last night; Steve Cannon from Vibrations of Doom brought a promo copy by the radio station and I played the first track, although I looked longingly at that looong song on the CD before nixing it due to time constraints. (Maybe next week. :)) Wish I'd had time to listen to the whole thing.

Shagrath only appears on one song, right?

I find your written opinion stated by you to seem matter of factly.
Not quite sure what you mean. My opinions are just that, my opinions. I never intend to state them as anything more. If it came across that way, it wasn't my intention.

I do not agree with your assesment of Epica nor The Black Halo. What it comes down to is personal opinion, bottom line. I think its awesome my self.
Of course. I fully expect many people to disagree with me, especially on this forum. If you like this disc, that's cool. As I think you know, I have a good deal of respect for your musical opinions.

The bottom line is this; I think Kamelot puts a good deal of effort and passion into what they do. However, the songs, save 2 or 3, just don't keep my attention. I don't think the music on The Black Halo is bad, just not worth the hype it's getting. I also don't understand why so many people are describing this CD as "darK". I'm just not hearing that at all. All of that being said, I'll probably spin it a few more times, and I could conceivably warm to it. However, after three spins, it doesn't do much for me.

Just out of curiosity, what did you think of their PPV performance?

I think I'm going to like it better than Epica by a decent margin. It seems to be a little more mid-tempo perhaps, and has some of that electronic , and effects and what not. I actually like mid tempo Kamelot a lot better than speedy and fast Kamelot. All in all I'd say I am pleased with this disc, but Kamelot as a whole doesn't quite do it for me like it did just a few short years ago.
I'm a bit surprised to hear you say this. I thought you and I would be on the same page with this one. As I said in my response to Bear, I'll spin it a few more times. But I don't sense that I'll warm to it. I revisit Epica every so often, expect to warm to it, and it leaves me cold as well.

It just sounded to me like you were expressing your feelings on the new Kamelot disc. There wasn't anything you said that should have been taken as anything more than opinion.

As for the new Kamelot I'm kind of digging it. I don't find it darker or anything like that, but I find it perhaps a bit more mid tempo than Epica. For me that's a good thing. I do hate interludes though, so I'm basically eliminating them from both my Epica and The Black Halo discs. To me they make the product lag a little. For me the discs actually flow better without the stupid interludes.

I don't quite like Kamelot like I used too, but I sure can't take anything away from them. They do what they do extrememly well, and I think they know how to write good songs. I might not rate Epica or The Black Halo quite on the same level as T4L and Karma, but I do think these discs are both of very high quality.

Agreed. To me, if you can't make the story work within the framework of the actual songs... try harder.

I think that is one thing that I don't like about Epica or The Black Halo. I basically don't care much for the story. If I listed to the discs as just a collection of songs I enjoy it much better. The interludes are an automatic skip for me. If you recall right I also had problems with the interludes in Symphony X's V cd. I think those interludes make the product lag. I guess I'm not an interludes kind of guy ?

I'm with ya, sugar. I'm not much of an interludes type of chick. :) Then again, I sometimes wonder if I'm even a concept album type of chick or just pretending. :)

I think I need to finish tackling Be before I even think about TBH or anything else, though. Mrs. Zod was right on with what she told me at 5--it's definitely not metal for the most part, not easy, and a little disturbing. Gotta love those crazy Swedes. ;)

Nope, he is the dumb one. The Orc in Lord of the Rings is Shagrat, without the "h" - but Shagrath wasn't smart enough to realize this. Afterall, he does play in Dimmu Borgir. :p
