It has it´s ups and downs,i think the intro riff is pretty pointless for example. But the riff starting at the same time as "..around the bend..bend..bend" is f-ing evil.

It's one of my all-time favorites! I like everything about it. Seems that every album has one or two songs I never get tired of and this is one of them... I would be damn happy to hear this song live (and the twighlight is my robe!)

With me, when the "aaaaaahhh" part comes, I'm imagining that he has very reluctantly(and angrily) had to accept that he is gone from the world. Like in the lyrics, "rotting body, clad in ancient clothes is left behind with a wave of the hand." Now he's just roaming the forest, because he cannot change anything. Still my favorite Opeth album!

This song is a monster  I usually listen to the whole MAYH album and this song is the climax to the album. The feeling of grief in this song is very powerful and also the feeling of closure.

After I read the lyrics,I illustrate and dream the story in my mind. For example at the beginning of the songs I dream that the spirit in story finds his body, posseses it and then just like the zombies in old movies, punches the ground from under and gets out of his coffin. Then runs in haste to find his lover to see her one more time because his time is running low.And when the growls close to the ending is playing,I think that his spirit is forced to leave the body and return to the heaven and he is struggling to keep his link to the world and growling because he doesnt want to go ( like saying NOOOOOOOOOO). When I listen to songs like this they feel better.I think Opeth is a artist and they actually make your brain illustrate what you listen to.And also,I sometimes get the feeling that an angel and devil is telling a story in any of the songs.( death growl, clean vocal contrast ). This makes me love opeth.

I understand what you say, I dont see images in my head but I agree with the angel/demon contrast. The growling is aggressive and extreme and the melodic singing is soft and divine but both are equaly as powerful. Each Opeth song reminds me of natural beauty no matter what album the song is off.
