Karnivool - Sound Awake (2009)

For those who know them, this is their sophomore lp that's expected to come out in late May. They just uploaded the new single "Set Fire to the Hive" to their myspace. http://myspace.com/karnivool and a video for that song was made and I imagine will be available to see pretty soon as well.

For those who don't them, they're kind of similar to bands like Fair to Midland and Opus Dai. Sort of post-Tool proggy modern-hard rock I suppose. 2005's "Themata" has become a pretty addictive album for me and many others. It's melodic and energetic, yet still technical enough at times ("Scarabs" for example).

Some folks around here may want to check them and their new album out if they don't know them already.

I didn't care for that song on first listen, but I do think their last disc .. Themata .. is very good. I'll probably look to preview this new one before purchasing.

they may be touring the States in March or April as they already have been confirmed for South By Southwest in Austin, TX in March.

There are a lot of alternative rock oriented bands that I just can't get into; however, Karnivool is not one of those bands. I take them for an incredibly solid and creative act. I enjoyed their debut, and I enjoy what I have heard off this second release. Unfortunately I have yet to own it, but I plan to sometime in the future. They seem to be doing really well for themselves at home, so let's hope they share that same success when they break out into the states. Something tells me they have a decent chance at our overall scene. I'm sure Incubus fans could grasp onto Karnivool with no problems.

btw Sound Awake drops finally on February 16th in the USA. I already own a copy, but I'm sure many fans around here do not.

Karnivool are planning to tour the U.S. with Fair To Midland on a co-headlining trek that will kick off on March 17th and run through to April 17th. Dates and venues are currently being locked down with more news expected shortly. Karnivool will release their latest outing “Sound Awake” through SIN on February 16th.
