Katatonia Help

We Must Bury You is pretty bad, yeah.

I think I have to wait a few more weeks for my CD to be delivered but I guess I get my mp3 download today? Neato.

Ooh! And the mp3 collection for Danzig Sings Elvis!

At first I typed Danzig Singes Elves which would probably make a better album.

I have low hopes for both but hey I'll take whatever new fanboy fun I can get right about now.

Hey guys remember April of 2020 when everything sucked so hard that it felt like literally nothing good was left in the world?

Revisiting the latest Katatonia album because I pretty much shelved it immediately. Nothing was "doin' it" for me other than one song, but to be fair nothing much of anything was "doin' it" for me back then except finding my way to the bottom of whisky bottles as quickly as possible.

Srsly dudes did everyone age 5 years last year? I went through several bottles of scotch a month for a spell there. Things sure seem a lot better today.

This album also seems better today. It's not amazing, but I think it's a step up from The Fall of Hearts. That one was a little too slick even for modern day Katatonia. This one sounds... worn out... but in an experienced sort of manner, instead of being out of ideas. I enjoy the build-up nature of many of these songs.

That being said, I also listened to The Great Cold Distance this weekend and I will say this until my dying day: Katatonia has never been the same since Daniel Liljekvist left. Are his other bands worth checking out?

What made yall age? I never really stopped going to work. Left a toxic relationship and feel better than I have in a while.

BMD for life

I'm not saying that all of 2020 was like this, but more than enough of it was for me to gain extra gray hair. By the time half the west coast was on fire, I was pretty done with Existence.

But yeah Brave Murder Day is the bestest ever. About 5 other of their albums have been my #2 across the years, but that one can't be beat.

I honestly dont give BMD the credit it deserves. Other than boomers like us, no one really mentions it that Im aware of. The kiddies are all obsessed with the goth rock thing they are doing. And thats cool. Whatever floats your boat. But yeah dude, I agree. I rarely pull it on the shelf, but its still as awesome as ever.

Yeah, that's my wife with Katatonia. Discouraged Ones and later, she doesn't like any of the earlier shit. She's not into growled vocals at all, unless they happen once or twice (per album) buried in the background.

On the one hand, it's pretty cool that her favoUrite album is The Great Cold Distance.

On the other, I do tell her "OMG BRAVE MURDER DAY IS SO MUCH BETTER WHY DON'T YOU GET THAT JEEEEEEZZZZZ!!"
