I know one thing about this band: their name is Katatonia.

Discuss and enlighten me, O Knowledgeable Ones.

Holy shit - on the way home tonight, I was thinking that I was going to have NAD review Viva Emptiness. I think it might suit his tastes in particular, and plus it'll be good to have their 2003 release reviewed.

wow, I stand totally opposite than you lot (uh oh, talkin' like a damn Brit). IMO Katatonia's best material is easily the early stuff: Dance of Decembre SOuls, Brave Murder Day, SOunds of Decay. I also enjoy Discouraged Ones, and DO has the best album cover ever.

Sorry, I could not stomach TD and LFDGD. Pseudo depressing goth rock doesn't do it me. And maybe Jonas's vocals are trying to be depressing and all, but to me, he just sounds bored.

Haven't heard Viva Emptiness (dumb title), and really have no desire to.

And what ever happened to that collection of rare songs the band was suppose to release?

Kvlt. I need to finish off Dimmu Borgir etc. then so I can start with some new ones.
Hey, my dining table is stacked full of CD's waiting to be listened to, reviewed, or sent out to you guys. Trying to write a review for Maiastru Sfetnic isn't exactly easy, and so things start to collect.

Having said all that, I am interested to see your review of the new Dimmu etc.

Viva Emptiness is coming your way today, along with some other goodies.
So I read that email 20 minutes ago and already forgot almost ordered it right now, I am teh d0rk. :loco:

Yeah I'm looking forward to Erik's Dimmu review too, I think our stance is about the same on their newer stuff...

It should be a good foray into the band for you. I would definitely be interested to hear your thoughts based on your general tastes. If you like it, and start to make your way backwards through their discography, I think you could end up having a small adventure into Katatonia-land.

Well I listened to most of Viva Emptiness last night, definitely good stuff, but what's up with the lyrics? Stupid lyrics are much better when you can't understand them. "It's not as if I owe him money..." What the fuck?

I have to admit, the first time I heard "Criminals", I cringed at the lyrics:

He came back to your house
I didn't take it as a promise
Always thought it was a lie
He went too far the fucker
It's not like I owe him money
This is different

Obviously not against swear words, but when he sings the word, "fucker", it seems so...out of place, you know?

So NAD, what do you think? Any Tool influence there in your opinion?
