hahahahahahahahahahhahaha, this is great! metalcore at Wacken. how fucking stupid are the Wacken people!

I'm gonna be honest. I have a slight soft spot for the stuff on their past two albums. It's basically heavy/power but with a sub-par singer. Sure they look like fags and they're popular with the kids, but that doesn't particularily matter to me. They have some catchy tunes and guitar work on their newer material.Avenged Sevenfold are much more metal now than they were, it just doesn't help most people's views of them that a bunch of n00bs know them due to Guitar Hero.
OK.
Firstly, welcome back Stormwatch, I missed you, you scottish bender.
Secondly, let me first say that I am a close minded cretin that hates anything -core or post-. That being said, raging about what is "true" metal on such a huge festival is a fucking waste of time. They have to appeal to the widest possible audience to make the most money. Wacken is a commercial, money making venture. For purity, go to the smaller fests which are put on by fans for fans. Wacken is put on for drunken metal heads (no bad thing) by fat German business men. The fact they have long hair does not make them any less corporate whores. Don't get me wrong, that isn't meant as a huge insult - it is after all just one band in a fucking huge line up.
Evrybody needs time to have a piss and drink more beer. Trust me, these turds will get the reception that they deserve from the audience. THAT will say more to the organisers than some fucking e-petition, especially since most of the retards (no offence to any signers in here) won't be attending anyway.
The metal police don't exist people, and petitions don't convince businessmen of shit: profits do.
OK.

I don't think it's a bad idea for Avenged Sevenfold fans to listen to some Carcass and At the Gates. Wouldn't that be more conducive to the 'spirit of metal'?I don't give a shit that many of you think you're cool and open minded for liking some metalcore. But surely, you can see the advantages in keeping the two scenes separated? After all, there are still many metal puritans out there who don't want the scenes they've cultivated and lived for for many years spoiled by some fad, and who are you to deny them that? In other words, make your own goddammed festival!
/signed on the premiss that Wacken is merely the metaphor for all the metal festivals that has for many years been true to the spirit of metal.
So the 'spirit of metal' is limited accessibility? Sounds self-defeating to me.Except that Carcass and AtG will be playing the songs that appeal most to them, namely Heartwork and Slaughter of the Soul. If they knew they were catering to a more extreme/traditional-minded audience, they would feel better about playing their less-accessible songs.
Meh...punk is the same way. Any other musical genre outside of punk and metal, 'selling out' is a good thing.
Also, there's no such thing as 'the spirit of metal.'
