I feel 7 strings adds more potential to the sound of the band.

But 'either way rules' as long as it's heavy as fuck. :)

7 strings 0wn!

Loomis opened a door when he picked up the 7.
Tony [MacAlpine] can fucking JAM on the 7.
John Petrucci picked up a 7 and wrote the greatest song ever, A Change of Seasons.
And Meshuggah, we can NOT forget Meshuggah... although, they are using 8 string guitars on their new album.

yeah, and don't forget Haji's Kitchen! They fucking ROCK!!! they were one of the original 7 string rockers, around the time of Korn's initiation. Haji's has about a million times the talent though, i don't even think i would call them Nu Metal.. they SHRED LIKE HELL TOO!!! I personally love the tone of a seven... i just like the deep rumble :)

check out Haji's here:

I don't care how many freakin' strings the guy uses, as long as he starts playing like he did on POE again...!!

I think he should go to a 12 string, and Jim should use an 8 string bass.

Then, they should get a second drummer, preferrably Sean Reinert. And another singer, a female, perhaps Cristina Scabbia. Then Warrel should do death metal vocals, and Jeff should only play solos, no riffs. Then they could add sampling and keyboards. Then, you can quit taking me seriously as this is obviously just a joke :)

I really couldn't care about how many strings there are.

Why does EVERYONE think and give credit to Korn being the "originators" and the first to use a 7 string guitar?

Obviously you haven't heard of Steve Vai, for he was the first. Well, to the best of my knowledge. At first, Steve didn't want the low end B, he wanted to put on an extra high A. He couldn't do it because he couldn't get a gauge high enough to perform the task, so he just played with the low B.

I think Jeff should write the songs on a 6 string, and if the song turns out to benefit from the use of a 7, then so be it. But often times, having 7 strings at your disposal leads to a lack of originality. Fortunately, Loomis ownz, so that hasn't been a problem....;)

yet.....

I know Vai used them... i mean in the time of the HEAVY groovy metal 7 string thing. Not just USING a 7. I know i didn't say that, but that's kinda what i meant. And of course i've heard of Vai! who hasn't?!?! Eslecially a shred guitar player (which i am hehe)

I say 7 string

They can still play 6 string on a seven string plus leving them with the extra low string giving them a wider range.
