I actually have the reverse problem with a land based line from Verizon. Their package plan is 39.99, yet the bill is always around $70. When I call to complain I end up listening to muzac versions of Beatles songs for 20 minutes before hanging up.

With my Cingular plan, the cost is 39.99 a month, and the final bill is always around $48. Sound is much clearer too. Plus the rollover minutes feature kicks serious tail.
