Kickdrum microphone

i got a few i5s a while ago and have used them on snares-awesome, on toms- at least as good as 57s not as good as 421s(but way cheaper), and on guitar- they are really good there, seems to have alittle more balls then a 57. the 57 sounds alittle tighter but the i5 sounds bigger. i guess it depends on the amp/guitar obviously but i think they sound really good. i got the i5s for $75 usd. super good for mics this good. i cant wait to hear some guitars andy records with the i5.

I second this. It would be great to see. Regardless though, would it matter much since almost everybody just soundreplaces it via drumagog, ktrigger etc. etc.?

For me, it really depends on the band/drummer/what speed they're playing at. I try to keep things as natural as possilbe. I am all about the old school when it comes to heavy metal drums. (Stained Class, anyone?)

That bieng said, if I am replacing a kick drum, I'll usually custom roll a sample for the band I'm working with, hopefully sampling the drummer to keep the feel as natural as possible. So yeah, a new D6 can come in real handy for either application.

I just got a bunch of stuff off Audix, including the i5, which I have to say gives our good friend Mr57 a run for it's money. Recording drums in a week or so, will report back.

One cool thing about the i5 is that it's slightly shorter than the 57, which can make it somewhat easier to fit into a tight spot on a drum kit. This can make life exponentially easier when you're working with a whining drummer.

Where did you pick up the i5's for $75? I think I'll pick up a couple when I'm in LA.

i got them awhile ago but the place is roaddog online http://www.roaddogonline.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=34 they have them on there right now for $84.99usd. if you are gonna get a few try to call them, theyll probably cut you an deal. i bought four at the time so they had no problem cutting a deal for $75.00. even $85 is dirt cheap for this mic. good luck man

Well, I finally got to mic up my guitar with an i5....

:OMG: :OMG: :OMG: FOOK ME! This thing is amazing! I went with a MK1 5150, Marshall V30 cab, i5, Great River MP2NV, and a Distressor.... All I can say if I got heaviest tone I've ever heard roar out of my monitors. It's somewhat similar to a 57, but the top end seems a little less brittle. I even laid down a little demo with it, which I'd love to post, but I can't right now, as I'm the worst drummer on planet Earth and you guys would laugh me right off the board! I'll see if I can get a competent drummer to lay down a better rhythm section, then post.
