cats don't respond to names anyway like dogs, they respond to the tone of your voice.

I didn't know that....
we have 3 cats and we named them and all 3 of them react to their names, all 3 in their different ways, one looks at you and blinks, waiting to see what you'll "say" or do, the other one comes running (or ignores both of us totally, esp.if he's full  ) and the third one comes running and meows.

hmm... interesting, I should do some reading about that subject. :)

maybe my cats are illegal mexicans and don't understand english!

cats (and some other animals) also have a second sense of smell, called flehmen; you know, when they open their mouths and they have these things called jacobsens organs in the roof of their mouth...

Lizard is right! (I know Rick, you're always right)
cats do not react to names, but to tones thats why "old school cat names" sound more like tones..

anyhoo, I love cats, I'm so jealous Izabel!!! How wonderful!
give it a cool name, and I agree again with Lizard: wqit til you get the cat FIRST
and then name him/her... a name should be individual to the cat...

thats how I named my dog... I remember the night before I got him, I sat with my laptop, with one of those A-Z babies names websites, and went thought all
the names and couldn't find anything !!!!
the morning when I went to the shelter to pick him up (I already knew I was getting him specifically: in Arlington, there is a long adoption process,)
and when I looked at him that morning, I just said:
"SHrike.... " I'm going to call you Shrike...
and I know your brother, (winks at Pyrus) is the only one who appreciates that name :)

my cat's name is missy, I think that's a really good name for a cat
