Not knowing what the fuck you're talking about doesn't stop you from talking smack about Joey, though. He used to LIVE in the US for several years; furthermore, not being a native does not disqualify one from having an opinion. If it is, then everyone in this country can shut up about France, Germany, and England.

That being said, what exactly was wrong with his comment? America IS a very young country; we've only had civilization on scale with the rest of the world for about four hundred years, when everyone else has got millennia under their respective belts. There's nothing disparaging in what he says; it's a truthful observation made with affection.

I suggest you remove your head from your ass and not jump to ignorant conclusions.

I am not even going to start getting into this conversation. I would say that it makes me remember a conversation with an uncle and aunt of mine who wondered why in the heck I have so much interest to get back to europe(and other places in the world ) to sightsee and what not. They would rather travell all around North america.

I see often so many people that can't see nothing wrong with america being people that have never been elsewhere in the world.

I lived in Germany for 3 years while stationed in the military. I found everywhere I visited over there so interesting. Sure, there were people that didn't like seeing us there as soldiers but on the same side, would love to see us visit there as regular civilians.



I have always met people that became friends from all over the globe. It is part of why I don't put down tons of money for a house as I would rather spend money travelling around the globe going to killer metalfests(meeting killer drunken metalheads from all parts of this crazy planet) and seeing the culture of all these various countries.


I love America. Don't get me wrong but seeing all these people with their "you will take my guns from my dead hands" and their wanting to drive oversized gas guzzling trucks and hummers( I had a need to drive this while in the army but why do you need it in downtown Phoenix???)" piss me off. Don't even get me started with all the hunters in my area!

No country has given so much so freely to the world as have the Americans. When disaters strike, who is the first to respond with money, food, relief workers, and medical aide? Which other country has saved Europe from itself in TWO world wars? Then they had to defend Europe against the Soviets for 40 years! Which country invests so much to rebuild another country it has defeated in war, be it Japan, Germany, or Iraq? Which other country or group of countries contributes so much to financial assistance and developement of the Third World?

And yet Europe criticizes the US, lead by France who allowed catastrophe to develop on its boarders twice, and are letting it fester in its population today. Criticized by the French who's troops murder civilians in Ivory Coast, as the world says nothing. Heh. Brilliant.

I already responded in this thread but reading this post again I thought I'd point out a few things my Swedish friend has told me:

Their summers can reach temperatures of 104 farenheit

They have some if the most well preserved forests in europe and are one of the cleanest countries in the world.

They have one of the highest ratios of people per internet access in the world.

They are one of the wealthiest nations in the world.




For a country thats supposed to be bleak and desolate it sounds pretty nice to me. And no Bush either! (although I don't know how good/bad their president/prime minister/warlord/head viking/whatever Sweden calls its ruler is).

Especially considering this is a forum devoted to a festival that specializes in bringing over bands from other countries...I don't know about you, but listening to the metal that I do has made me more worldly and concious of the entire world as opposed to just this one country. You think the guys in Tad Morose or Pain of Salvation would appriciate some of the stupid shit some people in this thread have said about Sweden? Don't you think that maybe people from other countries might just be CONCERNED over the actions the Bush administration has taken. That maybe the lust for money that this government has is going to result in some *serious* consequences to not just us but to the world? I'm not even talking military action, I'm talking stuff like Bush drilling for oil in Alaska's largest wildlife preserve or opening up I think something like 1/3 of all forested areas for lumber and construction etc.

Seriously people, if you were addicted to heroin would you tell your friend to "mind your own fucking business" if they told you you were fucking up your life? Are you that unable to take criticism over something as, honestly, insignificant as what country you live in?

But who really cares right? as long as good ole "dubya" is fightin the good fight for such intangible things as "freedom" and "justice" and protecting you from having to watch two grown men kissing, because everyone knows homosexuals are tools of satan.

And have fun driving all those needless gas guzzling SUVs and Hummers after gas prices exceed 3 dollars a gallon. I will seriously laugh my fucking ass off if it ever gets as high as it is in Europe (the equivilant of 5 dollars a gallon).

That gets my vote for post of the week, whether you guys agree with me or not. It's about damn time you Americans accept some criticism from other countries/people. You're not the only country in the world, and, to this individual (I forget the nickname) who posted about isolating America from the rest of the world, and a few years later drinking lemonade in Arizona....
