Kiss my ass Joey Tempest...

As for the "proven fact" about Alaska's reserves not providing enough oil, do you know the REAL reason why scientists who dare say that make that claim? NOT because of lack of oil, but because we don't have enough oil refineries in the US the convert it to useable gasoline as fast as it can be drilled out. Problem is, the Hillarys and Kerrys of the left want to TwIsT the facts to make it sound like the problem is a shortage in oil, not refining capacity. That way, they are assured of getting the vote of any environmentally minded voter. In the early 90's, we had 5 major refineries in the US. We're down to 2. The oil is not that hard to get. Last, remember something: We buy oil (most of it, and more than any other country) from the Saudis. A portion of their profits are funneled to terrorrists. Then they attack us and our allies. Consider that next time you buy gas for your car. Now consider creating American jobs, starving the terrorists of their needed cash, lowering gas prices, and only running over a couple caribou, which are not exactly endangered.

Amen. Makes me wanna go buy an SUV!!!!

By the way, Hillary, do you know why some people think animals will actually be threatened by Alaskan drilling? NOT because of some massive pollution to the air or depletion of forests, but because, and this is their serious answer: They're afraid the couple dozen workers travelling to and from the drill sites will be careless and hit the animals that are crossing the roads with their work vehicles. Are you FUCKING kidding me? Go to Minnesota during deer hunting season. You almost have to drive OFF the road to avoid hitting all the road kill. Sucks, to be sure. Believe me, I'm an animal lover all the way. But on this, the fact is, people are being stubborn, as opposed to rational. I was against it myself until I started listenting closely to the arguments from both sides.

I would be glad to send you a paper I just had in one of my classes in college regarding the whole ANWR thing. It's funny because I have been paying attention to the subject for a while now (not that I'm an expert or anything). It's just that I really did not know that this is why they're concerned. If you're right, then kudos to you and I realize I didn't know about it. The sources of information I have though didn't mention that this was the reason for the whole concern about the animals.

Oh my, we're sure moving along. How long before we get to abortion and gun control? Oh well, guess we don't get too many political threads so we might as well cover everything. :D

Man, that Kim Jong Il, what a bastard.

Just remember. 87% of college professors are registered left wing radicals who think everyone else is stupid. Take their teachings with an open mind, then suspend judgment until you're old and have paid your first million in tax dollars for government waste and people who don't like to take care of themselves. Then put it all together, and VOILA! You're now a proud independent.

Incidentally, I'm giving you a load of shit, (about the Hillary and the Playstation) for no other reason than it's fun, and I can. Besides that, my refrigherator broke down, and I'm getting tired of Little Ceasars while waiting on the repair service. You sound as intelligent as anyone else, but let's all do our own independent research before caving to those whose careers in politics and media are determined by our willingness to BELIEVE....

Respect. I've got to go now... my tree needs a hug, and I really haven't been paying enough attention to it lately.

Did you say ABORTION, GUN CONTROL, AND KIM JONG IL?!?!

Man, don't get me going! OOOOOOOOhhhhhhh YYYEEEEESSSS!!!
I love this forum.

I think that Hammerfall is opposed to gun control. Just a guess.

I know for a fact they are opposed to sword control.

And I can say with absolute certainty that you won't get their hammers until you pry them from Joacim Cans's cold, dead hands.

Wait a minute -- are you talking about ME personally, or the US? 'Cause now I'm thinking I need to change my signature! That sounds pretty good, and a lot like me and my brilliant, thought provoking posts!

The amount of oil in Alaska would not be able to satisfy the whole country's needs and that is a proven fact.

Also... do you have a caring heart to remember that there's dozens of wild species of animals that could be in a danger of extinction if the drilling takes place? Does that touch you at all?

You are totally incorrect, sir!

And as a note to metal71, we DO know how much oil lies under the ANWR. Type in ANWR (or spell it out) in Google and then go to the U.S. Geological Survey's pages on it.

So, here are some facts that Big Environment would rather you did NOT know.

Size of the ANWR: 19 million acres
Size of the drilling project, maximum allowed BY LAW: 2,000 acres -- about the size of a big subdivision. Total percentage: .0105%
AngraRules, this is somewhat larger than a toilet-sized hole, but it's still pretty fuckin' small.

Available oil in the ANWR, mean value, per the USGS: 8 billion barrels.(estimates range from 4-16 billion)

Now, 8 billion barrels, if pumped and shipped using the existing Prudhoe Bay pipeline facilities (that's the plan), would last us at LEAST thirty years. Note that by using the existing pipeline, there is no additional disturbance to the ecological infrastructure.
The environmental lobby has been fond of misquoting the figure as gallons instead of barrels...which instantly decreases it by a factor of 40. One of their other tricks has been to quote the length of time the ANWR could supply the U.S. if EVERY other source of oil -- foreign and domestic -- instantly dried up. That's just plain stupid -- and underhanded. But remember.....only by keeping you in a state of fear can they raise money through fund-raising.

AngraRules, your concern for species extinction is commendable......but misplaced. Indigenous species near petroleum facilities actually fare BETTER than in the open wild, because hunting and trapping are both banned within range of said facilities.

Here's a hint: Try to avoid Big Environment's data. They have a habit of....umm.....mis-stating the facts. That's a polite way of saying that yes, they're LYING. Always double-check their data. I did.

While you're at it, try reading Michael Crichton's latest novel, State of Fear.

This SuperPower conquers tyrants, builds free societies, then leaves

Okay, someone is going to point out that we aren't consistent about our support for democracy. Fine. I'll agree with the point before anyone raises it.

However, the statement itself is correct, and we are the only nation who has ever done this sort of thing. Everyone else just conquered, pillaged, and left only after being driven out or becuase it got too expensive.

One thing I find about Europe's critique of the US today is that it's based on European conceptions of how nations behave. I find that they have a tendency to project. To assume that we are motivated by the same lust for power that they were when they were #1. Hey guys, we're not you! We broke away precisely because we didn't think the way you did! You don't understand why we do the things we do, you just make up reasons that make yourselves feel morally superior.

abortion: I'm for it

gun control: I'm for it

And anyone who thinks that we would ever stop dealing with middle eastern oil companies for oil is soooooorely underestimating the greed and corruption prevailant in our government. Why do you think we haven't turned our attention towards alternative fuel resources? You're gonna tell me its been nearly a century since the combustion engine was invented and we haven't come up with something more proficient? buuuuuullllshit. I'll give you three reasons why we keep falling back on oil: money, money, and money.

It boggles my mind at the short sightedness of people. Its the history of the world I guess, and its not gonna change Im sure. The more we abuse the earth the worse the situation gets, and eventually theres a point where we fuck it up so much that theres no turning back. It might not be in our lifetime, but if any of you have children I would be concerned for their future and for the future of their children, and so forth.

Or you can just call me a "tree hugger" and ignore everything I just said.
