EDIT : just watch the "classic tone"/"MOD squad" videos and not the "liquid metal" ones, the first ones were done with a proper rock and heavy rock approach and have killer tones, mainly suited for rock / heavy rock but still good for metal, whereas the second ones have a FAILish metal approach and suck both for rock and metal IMO.

and tons of other videos on the youtube channel (look out for those named "2010 LA ampfest")

This really is amp galore !!!

Almost all the time I see videos like these posted I have the feeling that almost noone
there plays metal, like the guys at hugeracksinc.com, I respect these guys alot and
most of them are pretty great players, but they don't have the feel to play metal and
dial in pretty shitty sounds most of the time.

And why in the fucking hell does everybody play a Metallica riff if he starts playing a
Mesa Recto?
I love(d) Metallica but I hate it when other guys play their stuff, especially if it's just
because they think "oh, yeah, I am playing a Recto right now, I should play some Metallica
riffs on it to show everybody how metal I am!!!"

/rant

Geezus, considering the hype surrounding this, that was quite underwhelming for the high gain portion of it.
Unboosted Recto, fuck sake, WHY?

Just sounded like primarily rock players who occasionally dabble in metal player, rather than guys that actually understand metal guitar.
That's the thing about guys that primarily play metal, they tend to usually understand rock guitar too, but quite often guys that mainly play rock just don't know how to do metal well.

I liked the rockish stuff but not the metal parts too much either, mostly for the reasons you guys stated above :) The guy with the beret sounded fine for metal, but the guy with the soloist kind of guitar sounded like amateur metal.

I didn't watched all the clips though. And they're not all out yet.

Im getting pretty annoyed by the fact that everyone on this forum seems to use the term "metal" as an exclusive word for music heavier then thrash.
Personally, i think Lugo is pretty damned good at playing Van Halen, Ratt and Dokken-stuff.. which by the way, is _METAL_.

I like most of Lugo's videos, for the sole reason that you get to hear some other tones then b-tuned emg-equipped guitar -> 808 -> 5150 -> mesa os(with v30 speakers.) -> 2 * 57.
If you want to, you can change that 5150 for Rectifier, JSX or what ever other amps Mesa Boogie and Peavey has created since 90.

You people are despicable! >;(

/end rant

I do agree with you to an extent, but my problem is that all the tones are bad. I'm not expecting sturgis-core, but given the quality of amps/gear/studio/engineer, I expected alot better. Alot of these sounds worse then guitar rig.

Shitty rock and roll sound. I Don't like how it sounds. The guitar sounds ugly too. Nothing good for metal here.
