cs is just as much or more of a mindless death match than UT, with a whole slew of worthless guns among 2 or 3 guns every single person seriously playing uses which makes it infinitely more boring and frustrating

And who the hell said that CS is crap because it has no single player version? CS is the multiplayer expansion to Half Life, one of the best single player FPSs of all time.

Oh yeah - not saying that DOOM is better than CS, but no love for DOOM? It might predate truly 3d games but it still plays brilliantly. And bollocks to the NES, SFII and Micro Machines on the Mega Drive ftw.

sorry, theres a huge difference between playing CS competitively and playing CS in some random pub server.

the difference being that people actually play to win rounds, giving an incentive to actually try the map objectives... not that that really changes the overall gameplay

yeah it does. pubs are 15v15 players, nonstop chaos and pretty much depends largely on luck. 5v5 competitive scrims actually show individual and teamplay skill

those 15v15 nonstop deathmatch chaos pubs probably make up 90% of all of CS servers though... there's no incentive to do any objectives (which is I guess where the game is REALLY starting to show its old ass age, given games like Battlefield 2 where your account earns points and ranks up as you do whatever job your chosen specialty is supposed to be doing ... not that there is actually any interesting or intricate objectives or jobs to perform in cs)... the game has always failed on that level

I'm sure playing in leagues and stuff makes it more interesting at least since I guess you're actually trying to get something done

yeah but who cares. any practical half-hour-to-kill playing session on that game in a pub is going to be as shallow a game experience as it gets, because that's how a majority of cs players play the game, because that's how the game presents itself to be played - instant gratification kill-everyone over teamwork and "tactics", until a 3rd party steps in like a league where finally an incentive can be established (such as the status as simply being recognized as the "best", or $) to actually win rounds as a team instead of each individual constantly striving to be the next john rambo score-wise
