Laney VC-30 212

i have the gear, but a friend is borrowing it....its a shitty mic anyway...i'm looking into an sm57 (or 58)...i don't remember the instrument mic....but that one....then i will...i have the software though....so, i will get around to it. might be a while though...but in the meantime....you should continue your pursuit of a vc-50, or a vc-30...if your worried about volume though....the vc-30 will cut through...it can scream....especially with a tubescreamer in front of it...and an extention cab.

They are not versatile. If you are a fan of early thrash metal like Sepultura and want to recreate that kind of tone, then that's all Marshalls are really good for. I'm using one now and I'm fairly happy with that trademark sound it has.... but as stated, there is no versatility. That's where the Laneys are apparently meant to excell.

So basically what you are saying is, If i wan't more of an Opeth tone, Go with a Laney amplifier?

oh wow, just search on google man, they can explain it better than us, and it doesnt waste our time(no offense) plus, you dont have to have a gt6 just to get their tone, a laney by itself will get really close.

i'm not a fan of multi-effects processors myself....then again, i have never sat down for a few hours to tweak around with one to get a good tone....opeth obviously does a good job though....but a gt-6 can do NOTHING about the voicing and overall tone of an amp. running a gt-6 through a shitty sounding amp will not give you good tone. an ME-50 would probably be the only effects processor i would look into...simply because it is not really an effects processor...it is more like a collection of stomp-boxes...it seems to preserve the overall tonal integrity of the amp. do you agree with me moonlapse?

When you say you think the ME50 preserves the tonal integrity of the amp over the gt6, wrong. I played a gt6 through i think a line6 amp at a guitar center a while back, and you can hardly tell a difference between the pedal distortion and the amps. Of course, it sounded like shit because line6 isnt worth a damn. Oh, and it was a spider II. now back to my previous conclusion, line6 sucks balls.

really?...hmmmm...and i guess i will go back to my previous conclusion....i haven't really played around with those things long enough to know...in my few minutes on the gt-6 at the local guitar store, i couldn't get rid of the harsh upper mids. thats obvioulsy an eq thing, and it prolly has a lot to do with mixing two pre-amps.

I love my ME-50. I can plug it into any amp and get at the very least a 200% increase in tonal clarity and quality. As said earlier, the MGDFX100 sounds like ass naturally, yet when I run through my ME-50 it becomes a monster of an amp. Same applies to my little Epiphone Studio 10, which is hardly bearable with on-board fizz (or 'gain' as they call it) and also the Valvestate.

Whilst it's true that the inherent tonal qualities of the amp always get preserved and are projected in your tone, a good multi effects processor really can help you get more out of your rig. My opinion, anyhow.

well, since opeth uses laney amps all around, guitar and bass, you prolly have a better chance of getting that sound than with a marshall. i am looking at the laney vh100r or the tt50h, i dont quite need 100 watts, so ill prolly be more apt to get the tt50h. laneys kick ass
