Anyone want to post their chain for either of these? I'm having a hard time getting the sounds as good as some demos I've heard using these plugs. Thanks guys !

1. I prob would have posted the 3 threads you had into 1
2. Nobody is gonna post any presets. To be honest running TSEX30 with all knobs at noon should sound pretty good
3. If you cant get a good sounds using these plugins it is most likely, you, your guitar, your pups, your interface, your playing etc. Also depends alot on your mix, you can have stunning guitar tones but if you cant mix it right its not gonna sound good.

Just keep experimenting and trying different impulses etc.

1)Why? They are all about 3 different things.
2) I didn't ask for presets. I asked about the chain , as in what eq etc are you using before and after , any compression etc.

I am getting a decent sound , it's just not QUITE there. so I figured maybe people were running something else along with it.

The cab impulses you use make a big difference as well.

I have had the best luck using that pre with the Recab 6l6 Sovtek 57 Ghandi Cab. I also Low and High Pass.

The knobs are usually right around 12:00 on this preset. Thats where I really like the tone. maybe 11 on the bass and mids

Thanks for the tips guys ! Skinny Viking , just curious , do you always run an eq after the sim , or after the impulse ? Because I've been actually using it between the sim and the impulse

Skinny Viking , one more thing , what Saturation plug do you use ? I have one in Ozone but I figure you're using a stand alone vst plug in?

I'm still learning / experimenting with the amp sim thing myself but so far I have been doing everything after the impulse. Seems to give the more natural and smooth sounding results. As for the setting on the amp sim itself, that really can vary greatly depending not just on the sound you are going for but on everything before it (your actual playing, guitar, strings, pups, etc ...)

1) Idk it just seems weird to see 3 threads by the same person all floating next to eachother lol, i see what you mean though

2) I figured you were asking for presets, only cause their really isnt to many variations of chains to do. My chain usually looks like this

TSS -> TSEX30 -> Lecab (usually blending a redwire impulse and spres_high) and HP LP on an eq. To be more specific and just to start as an example

TSS Drive=0, Tone=7, Level=5 (no need to really increase the drive because in this case and most cases, you are using the overdrive as a boost to tighten the sound, not to add gain.)

TSE Everything at noon except boosting mid-hi frequencys a bit and adjusting the gain (dont use to much but dont use too little!)

EQ Hi pass at around 90hz, Low Pass around 10khz-12khz, with a little boost at 10khz to bring back some highs after the low pass

Also remember your hardware matters alot too. I had an epiphone explorer running into a M-Audio duo when i started recording. Then got a profire 610 and a countryman, HUGE difference. Now i just got EMG's, fresh strings and my guitar set up, MASSIVE difference. Also guitar playing technique can do a great deal on your tone, same with how tight you track your guitars.

Alot of things can be a deciding factor, its all about experimenting. Also impulses make a huge difference, for now, use the awesometime fredman pack and use the impulse called spres_high. You really cant go wrong. Check out guitarhacks impulses too. But the catharsis one is an exellent starting point. I could rant for hours about this but instead, just ask any other questions. Good luck! :kickass:

Ill give you my TSE preset. By itself it sounds pretty decent, but its nothing that will make you say " O man listen to that killer tone" Its not until I get it into a mix that THEN I will have to adjust settings in the TSE, or the EQing afterwards. THEN the real magic happens, frequencies start singing together, others get nixed. So unless your throwing these into a mix your basically chasing a dog around a tree all day. Time wasted.

tse-all knobs at 12 o clock. Output almost to max. If you have the cpu power turn those stereo and trafo knobs on. Load any cabsim/impulses you want. Usually awesometime, JJ, or cartharsis is pretty good and free. Eq after our cab sim with HP/LP. The next step, throw it in a mix. Then get ready to change those values. Prepare to figure out which eq cuts and boosts work best. To get the beefy sound, add a bass boost and a saturator in the chain.

But really, if your having a hard time, you may want to analyze every part of your recording chain starting with your playing. It needs to be tight when tracking. Check your guitar next, everything in working order? Good strings, good intonation, in tune? Good quality pup's (no they dont have to be EMG's)
etc etc etc. Track and mix more. REMIX EVERYTHING. Try your hand at mastering. You'll come to find that regardles of what gear you have, technique is king. You could have a bad assed NEVE console and not even know the basics about it and not get shit from it. Or a mixing master could come in with a laptop with minimal gear and stock vst's and create something that is very suprising.

Great post man , thanks a lot ! I have all the fredman , catharsis , and Recabinet IRs. ATM I'm using S-Preshigh though , nothing quite matches it for me , although some of the fredman's sound great too

Another great post , thanks ! The guitar playing is tight as hell and it is in a mix , I know you should never try to get a guitar sound by itself. I am now using a saturation plug after the sims , that helps a lot!

.

Quick question , this may be a dumb question but what do the stereo and "trafo" buttons do? Do they make the sound higher quality? Why would you want stereo on a mono guitar signal ( I have two take L and R of guitar) Thanks for the help

You would use stereo in the case of, say you wanna set up a bus with your amp sim, boost and cab all in stereo, you can put tracks into that bus so you only have to run one instance of your setup as oppesed to 2 or 4. Sorry if im not really making sense right now, im really tired lol

I believe onqel (creator of X30) said something about the trafo either being a sort of compressor or to make it sound tighter. Dont quote me on that though lol, if you think it sounds better with it on, then by all means use it! :kickass:

roflsaurusrex is right.. The 'trafo' button is softly compressing output signal to make it a little tighter.. It was experimental so it's not directly inherited by physics. :P
