I've been a musician for 24 years and have been into audio recording since about 2002.
Our very first ever recording was done on a 4 track reel to reel our second on an eight track reel to reel.
We then later went to using Adat's and recently digital via PT.

I occasionally post on here when i personally believe i have something of value to contribute to a thread and i don't take any one person's point of view as being gospel.

The arts and the technical aspect of what we here on this forum come together to explore offer various possible outcome's in achieving certain result's.

Some believe in working very methodically and technically whilst other's take more of a relaxed approach and are of the opinion that thing's remain organic.

This is a Metal forum after all created by Andy who is ontop of his game.
Personally i find Metal is hard to mix....infact i'll go onto to say that music in general is hard to mix.

We hear thing's and instantly want to know how that was achieved and feel it's the next best thing to include in our arsenal of mixing making music trick's.

It's not that easy i don't believe. Most musicians who are currently playing touring and active towards sustaining or maintaining a career in audio invest many hours of there time developing an attitude a belief and the ability to go out time and again and deliver.

This is also evident within many members here on this forum who continuously contribute discuss challenge and then deliver, allowing folk like myself and others to perhaps think about something that otherwise may have never been realised altogether.

Getting on this forum and asking silly questions is ok to an extent because it means you want to learn, however, this forum has been around for some time so it's also very understandable when forum members get fed up of going over the same old ground.....so yes.....do search first.

I've noted many people are on here asking Ryan to upload his samples...i mean seriously.
The guy's gone about doing what he's done and managed to achieve something stellar and out of that has said here have a listen to this.
Take it as an exhibition of his work, take it as a means of what can be achieved with limited mic's or take it as a lesson that less is more.

The source is right. The mic's were placed well for that given situation. The room worked,The drummer had good gear and good technical development so it was a case of all these elements comming together that ultimately produced desirable results leading toward ,people asking for the samples.

I guess what im attempting to get across here is that....

This forum isn't fucked by any means....(many other's have chosen to disagree with me here)
If you want to teach something first make sure you truelly know what your teaching, not something half understood and rarely tried.
If you haven't got anything nice to say about someone then best you don't say it.
If you call yourself an engineer then do just that, and not so that you can feed your ego but bring better quality music to your audience and help inspire others toward creating a better musical/audio technical body of work.

We set the standards and nothing in this life is hard when you apply yourself ,however applying yourself wholeheartedly and being truelly comitted isn't easy....so you decide what it is.

Cheers

+1.

I hate to admit that it applies to me as well. I used to have a tendency of giving advices based on mere 'assumptions'. And yeh, I used to be a little arrogant, 'prejudiced towards modern metal', etc etc around here.

Not anymore though. I've broadened my horizons musically (and sonically;)), and I quit being an ass as soon as I realized that this wasn't just another forum floating around cyberspace.

Kindly excuse my english skills.

Ah c'mon guys! Or am I getting it wrong?

Is this just harmless humor or are you trying to rag this guy? If it's the latter, have some civil-sense for God's sake
The OP's post was a quite a good read nonetheless.

No offense intended... to anyone...

I honestly didn't understand his point. It's a big rant about everything and then he's like "what I'm trying to say is......" And keeps on mumbling o_O

What's the point of all this?

Grounding......being realistic.....and exchanging information based on accuracy.

It's part rant part trying to inspire some members on line.

You know i have an Mbox and with 1 mic i did this(.........) in a shitty little untreated room so why doesn't my mix sound like so and so...and yeah he did that with this so i can officially come on here and say you don't need expensive gear to get great result's,here is an mp3 with my shit ...have a listen and tell me it doesn't stink.

P.S Where are my free samples.

Isn't that what this forum is all about? Helping each other become better at engineering, mixing, mastering, etc. etc.? If you don't like it, GTFO. There's always going to be new people joining the forum and asking n00bish questions. Instead of bitching, you could put on your big girl panties and actually help others instead of making a pointless thread bitching because someone's thread caused your period to come early.
