Oh man, hehehehe.... ok, here we go....

Ghost Reveries... what can i say about it that hasn't been said already... let's see..

I think it's one of the best opeth albums...
The growls to me sound better than ever before, it's more rocking where it should be and more relaxing where it should be than previous records.
The addition of Per makes the band even better than before.
I think this is their more mature record... with different approaches to songs.
Martin Mendez makes some of his best work on this record, so does Lopez.

ghost of perdition, the baying of the hounds and beneath the mire are the perfect three songs to open an album... kicks sooo much ass!!!

I still think it could be better with more climaxes. But to this day it's my favorite Opeth record, it might change tomorrow, but today yeah!!

and yes, it's better than still life!!!! FUKKKKKKKKKKER!!!

...so you voted it as Opeth's worst. LOL.

^^^no that was me lol

Im definitely in the minority here, i know, but to me, GR is Opeth's worst album. I even listen to Deliverance more than GR (BTPISIO and AFJ own). Flame me all you want, but even great songs like Baying of the Hounds, Ghost of Perdition, or Isolation Years can save GR. The album as a whole is just flat out boring in my eyes. But thats just me. I'm glad you guys like the album so much. I wish that I did.

I think these GR threads are getting a little repetetive but here are my thoughts. The album has some great moments, namely the first three tracks, from there however, it doesnt really do anything for me.

I voted it as in my bottom 4...

This should be a multiple choice poll.
I can only say that I like the direction Opeth is going. I would even like Per's keys to be less subtle. That said, Ghost Reveries is not an Opethian masterpeice. But the next album could be.

Agreed.

It's Opeth, and to me, the difference in ranking of albums #1 thru #8 is so small it's not worth mentioning. Sidenote: Blackwater Park is my personal alltime favorite album.

Well, this is a very tough poll to vote in. I voted in the bottom four Opeth albums, but I kinda wish I hadn't. I'm really not sure. Wait, let's take a look:

1. Blackwater Park
2. Deliverance
3. My Arms, Your Hearse
4. Orchid
5. Ghost Reveries
6. Damnation
7. Still Life
8. Morningrise

Oooooooh, just!
That is my PERSONAL opinion. There are a million reasons why that is the order I choose. However, I have a lot of leway with numbers 2-5, because the difference in quality is so minute. They're all wonderful in their own different ways. If anybody feels a need to know my reasons, ask away, but I doubt you REALLY do, so I don't see a point in posting them right now.

Really? I'm not getting at you at all here, but I'm curious to know why you like Morningrise the best? I just want a fresh perspective... maybe that would help me enjoy the album more. What about it is better than Orchid? To me, Orchid has the better ideas... am I just not seeing something?

I haven't really put in my 2 cents worth in any of these "ranking records/polls/GR - What do you think?" threads but I did vote in this one. GR = their best was my vote. I don't have the time to break it all down in rediculous detail, but IMHO.... Opeth always makes their best album. They are fucking great, they do the best they can under what ever circumstances exist and whatever influences they are feeling at the time. The "Opeth" always shines through and I don't really see any weak spots across the entire catalog including Deliverance. Frankly...that's why they are my favorite band. period.

After 3 spins of GR... my general feeling was "This is certainly Opeth... up to their high standards and more Opeth than ever". I stand by that.

Mmmmmmmmmmm,k.:flame:
