Let's talk about tattoos

@marduk1507:What do you have tattooed?

I guess I still owe you these. I hope you are ok, wherever you are.

The tattoo artist did an awesome job in terms of tattooing (still can't beat an original ;) ), any more tattoos - I'm going to use him only :)

Just out of curiousity, where'd you get it done?

I've been thinking of (once I get in shape) getting the sun/moon insert from The Gallery done on my shoulderblade. I also wanted to get TMI somewhere for years now, but I'm really undecided as to the best location for it.

Just like me then... I love the TMI ta2 2, but is it not a bit too obvious? I mean, it is not an unusual DT-fan-tatoo..

I like some tatoos but I wouldn't want to make one on my skin... u know.. at least in italy having a tatoo it's still a lot considered like a criminial-related thing, so it's even difficult to get a job if u have a tatoo on a part of your body that is visible on the workplace -> forearms, neck, hands, legs...

Well, it has been my life time dream to have a tatoo, but now that yoe could say I can afford one, I have a major problem that cannot be solved (yet, hofentlich):

Diabetes.

I have type I Diabetes, so basically if I cut myself the scar takes a hell lot longer than usual to heal, so it can get infected and stuff.

It sucks so fucking much... . I'm getting quite desperate ye know, I think that what I'll do is constantly pay for a temporary tatoo. I really want one, and well, since I want it so bad, I don't mind paying over and over for the same one. I'll get one as soon as my dad buys my ticket to Europe, just in case hehe.

I'll probably do the DT logo that looks like a T, on my chest it shall be.

Marduk: nice, but a bit hairy looking :D

You would really need to do more research on tattoos. During my own research on infos I have not heard that Diabetes would hinder people from getting a tattoo. You might also check with different doctors and hear what they say. If a wound just heals more slowly, that shouldn´t be such a big problem if you take really good care of it (and choose the coldest season for getting a tattoo, summer is way more complicated and high-maintenance than anything colder). Besides, also healthy people can have their tattoo infected, healing ability slow or fast. It matters more what kind of material is used and how people care for their tattoo.
It´s really important to check the studio for perfect hygiene (research on that, too) and the kind of ink they use. Whenever some tattooer doesn´t want to take your questions on desinfection and new needles seriously, leave the place and don´t go back. Also, if you´re sensitive, sticking to black might be better than using lots of different colours.

As for temporary tattoos, those are usually the ones causing more problems, and they might not be temporary, either, they can stay forever if done wrongly and cause allergic reactions due to the colour. I have actually heard of people where it worked (like one person), but there a dozens who later had to see their dermatologist and got blessed with a permanent picture. Also I don´t think it would be good for the skin to re-apply a henna (or whatever else they put in, you cannot know) tattoo to the same place.

South Jersey.

The guy is a former military doc, I hope he's still around, cuz I didn't see hime for 2.5 years... it will be hard to find someone that good :S

Also planning on getting one tattoo in LA, as soon as I get some tattoo celebrities artists available while I'm there :)

One in Tokyo.

One in Goteborg (NO FEAR).

I pretty much planned out right sleeve (wrist-neck), gona get it by around 30 y/o - below-biceps tattoos at the age of 18... not my thing.

Wow, thanx a lot for the info!!! I really, really appreciate it  :worship:  .

Well, my endocrinologist said that I shouldn't get one. What I hate is that he never gives me any real explanations, I think my mom bribed him or something hehe.

Wow, didn't know that about temporary tatoos, I'm not getting one now hehe. If I'd get meself a real one, it'd be the dots that appear in the cover of Haven. I guess I should try that and see how it goes, since it isn't really that much of a cut.

Obviously I'd check the place throughly before having the tatoo, though I think most of the places here are higienic and everything.

Needles are supposed to be sterile - the tattoo artist should open one right before you (each of them before using, if he's using a few), and destroy each one as well, after he's done.

And temporary tattoos... That's a big fat NO :heh: What's the point? Draw something with the pensil on yourself - works the same :D

Yeah, and if he doesn't I'll run away hehe.

 true enough, true enough.

Does anyone have any printable DT related tattoo designs I could have? Preferably the Mind's I symbol. Or do I have to be an un-lazy bastard and draw my own?

well, if you want that, you need to find out for sure. Have you actually experienced anything like this already, that a normal wound would need longer healing time? Or are they just assuming it? You could also talk to tattooers and hear if they know anything about it.

yep, but don´t get satisfied with any superficial explanation. Ask to see their autoclave where they sterilize the tattooing machine, and as Plintus said, they must use new needles every time. Also they need to wear gloves and the whole place should look as clean as possible. This plus proper care should ensure that everything goes well. And never drink (or smoke whatever) just to calm your nerves. First of all, tattooers should have an ethic code not to tattoo anyone intoxicated, and second, the alcohol dilates the veins, so that you´ll bleed more, so it´s pretty stupid to drink for relaxation before tattooing.

The motif you have suggested, it seems pretty suitable for a first tattoo and it´s not so big, so if you´re worried about healing, this should be manageable and then you can see how it goes.

Btw, I had links to good sites with information, but that was a few years ago and now I cannot find the stuff anymore, so you´ll have to search yourself :D

Maybe I'll scan in some pencil drawings I did of a couple of the symbols. Though if you want a real artist, hunt down Mag.

Would appreciate it muchly if you could!

But otherwise... who's Mag? :D

I'm actually somewhat an artist myself, but I do cartoons! (see below) I fail at tatto designs.

my.php

MagSec - I'm not sure when he was last around. I tend to phase in and out of this board alot, so I'm not up on current events. I'm at work now, but I'm getting out a bit early, so I'll try and hook up the scanner at home to scan them in. I warn you that I'm not actually an artist - I'm only decent at copying other people's work. (But I think I did a pretty kick ass version of TMI.)

I'd also been thinking of getting the two headed dinosaur fossil splash page image as a huge tattoo across my back and shoulders. And while it sounded really friggin cool, I realized I must have been on drugs.

Indeed: they should warn you about it, they won't do it even if you were really drunk the night before, they can tell when they start. One guy was having a tattoo done, he was either somewhat intoxicated atm or night before, so, here was alot of bleeding, and ink didn't stay under the skin (obviously). Waste of time. And money.

or maybe try to send a pm to Caotico, asking him if he has high resolution images of the symbol you want?

Good tip. But - a good tattoo artist can replicate anything from a little sample, resize it as needed (like in my case it was the original cover). Unless one wants tattoo on the whole back (something like Almighty Sundin's Nightfall) or smth like that.

Like one guy I know had a HUGE "The Mind's I" sign on his back, covering it all (I'm not kidding) :zombie:

But it is less expensive if the tatoo artist doesn't have to take too much time to re-draw the design :)

I am going to have a new tatoo by the end of august. On my leg, one of Niklas' design :D
I'll come up with some pictures as soon as it'll be done for sure! :D
It'll kick ass!!!!! :Smokin:
