Let's talk about tattoos

Holy crap! Yes, I dug it up. I figured I should at least be appropriate about the subject. I guess this would be a continuation from the general discussion thread. Also, disclaimer: I just found it. I didn't read it. My post doesn't relate to anything that happened previously in this thread.

Plintus: A free plug for my shop; the place I went to (Revolver Tattoo) was in New Brunswick, and for the size (decently large for one singular design) and time (about an hour, fairly expedient), including tax, mine was less than 90$. That didn't include tip, but I was pleasantly surprised (I expected to pay more).

Generally speaking: The other reason I brought this up is because I want another tat (not going to happen soon), and I want it to be (potentially) DT related. I would like to avoid the Haven symbol, the old "DT scythe", and spelling the band's name out on my arm (or any body part). Something less cliche than the sun from Exposures, or the Lethe symbol, or the Mind's I symbol etc. etc. etc. I know that doesn't leave much, but any ideas? Also, I haven't seen the Fiction booklet either, so I don't know any of the art in it. This, of course, is your opinion - it doesn't matter to me if it differs from my own - I'm just looking for ideas. This is in very preliminary stages. I found this search troubling at first, I even thought about commissioning Niklas (hahaha, if I could afford that :p), but decided this would at least let the creative juices flow.

I swear I'm not trying to attention whore

I forgot how much mine was - my friend keeps telling me $200, when I remember it was $300, but I used to be drunk till numbness back in the day, so no one can tell the truth :) Now it's about $300 + tax, took 4 hours from coming in to coming out.

I did it in Rebel Image Tattoo, Rio Grande NJ, ask John ;) Still got to getr him a copy of Exposures... may be this week! :p

What is yours of? I'm curious, actually.

I know where Rio Grande is, I'll have to check that place out. Somehow I highly doubt you'll be picking him up a copy of anything...:p

@Siren: Not a bad idea, I'm fond of that fishy. :) I was looking into some of his Gadus Morhua stuff, as I am a fan of Niklas's work.

@Plintus: Nice! I'm almost...jealous. Your artist did a great job, and that was an intricate design. As far as tipping goes, its customary, but not required. Usually its the same percentage - around 10%, maybe 15% if they do a fantastic job - as if you were tipping a waiter or waitress. I gave my artist 100$ even - around a 13$ tip which was a little more than 15%, by my calculation. I was excited, it was a birthday present, and she did do a good job, so it was a little high for the price of the tat. However, tipping is usually a good idea :p.

Doc: I didn't really want to give it away... But aside from eventually getting the Mind's Eye, and the Sun (from the Gallery, though, not Exposures), I was tossing around another idea. Watch the Lost to Apathy vid again, and look at the main tower behind Stanne in the 2D world. I did a little sketch a while back of the oddly Jester-head reminiscent Eye in the background, and it seems like a pretty cool design. Rather unique, too. Obscure, but I think anyone who has seen the vid would probably find it at least familiar.

As far as specifics, though, I've not gotten a tat done yet, so no advice from me on that front.

And in other (to redirect the convo to this thread) body-mod news, the fiance is debating pulling the two upper-ear piercings she has.

There is a pretty tight dragon with the Minds I logo inside up on the new fansite...would fit nicely on the back and u would be the only one wearingit haha=)

Kov- I really appreciate that. Honestly. Its the first time anyone has actually legitimately responded to my post. I couldn't, however, use it. Its a great idea, it really is, but its yours. I already have a tat, Kov, so no worries as far as the process goes. The hardest part for me would be getting a great artist. I am seriously considering just asking Niklas. If I could ever afford that (a commission), it would be absolutely amazing. Anyway, thanks again for the idea.

SnuffC: Cool idea, but I'm not into the dragon. :p It wouldn't fit my body-motif.

Myself, I'm presently waiting for my first tattoo. I asked one of my friend to draw the design, I simply love her style and asked her to draw something that would in her eyes represent my personality. I had no idea of what I wanted and she recently showed me her first drafts and I'm impressed, it's better than what I could imagine. When it'll be done, I'll post a picture.

@ DoC: You really should ask Niklas because asking doesn't cost anything. The price probably depends on the details you want to have and it depends on how accurate your idea of the tatoo already is. The more you'll tell him about how you want it to look like the easier it'll be for him and the cheaper it'll be for you.

Tattooing has been practiced worldwide. The Ainu, the indigenous people of Japan, wore facial tattoos. Tattooing was widespread among Polynesian peoples, and among certain tribal groups in the Philippines, Borneo, Africa, North America, South America, Mesoamerica, Europe, Japan, Cambodia and China. Despite some taboos surrounding tattooing, the art continues to be popular all over the world.
