Basically what the title says! What do you play on and what kind of music do you play? What kind of practice routine do you use? Any tips for other guitarists? Etc.

For the ultimate metal guitar sound:

Musicman Sterling JP100 (This is like the heaviest sounding guitar on the planet!):

Peavey 5150 is the stereotype for all metal amps. If you don't want to do research and just want a good amp, go with that. However, it's not necessarily the best.

I've heard good things about Musicman guitars for metal although I rarely see people play them. I assume you actually have the gear you are talking about?

If a 5150 is good enough for Fredrick Nordstrom, Matt Smith, and Spectre Sound, it's certainly among the best. It may not suit every sound, obviously, and its clean channel sucks, but for a high gain metal sound, it's no slouch. They used a 5150 (well, 6505 but its the exact same amp) on Mirror of Souls and that's one of my favorite guitar tones ever.

Yes, I own the gear I posted pictures for and can vouch for the incredible tones (listen to the song in my status if you have doubts). Musicman seem to be more common for their basses in metal (Stingray and Sub5 in particular), but their guitars are great as well.

The Sterling JP100 plays like butter, has a truss rod that's easily accessible, locking tuners, and the high gain tone is just insane. I did an A/B tone test with it comparing about 7-8 guitars including a Schecter Hellraiser, Ibanez RG 7-string (both of which sound godly) and it smoked 'em both. Tapping and squeals are really clear on the Sterling and I highly recommend it for metal guitarists.
