Through many years of metal consumption I have found myself to enjoy a plentifull amount of music through headphones only. Being said that, which albums do you prefer listening to on headphones as opposed to stereo/audio?

A few that come to mind for me are:

TEMNOZOR - Sorcery of fragments
SELBSTMORD - Spectre of hate
GRAVE - Into the grave

Sometimes, I find that some albums are best experienced with a good pair of headphones.

Summoning's Dol Guldur is a good example of this.

Great headphone music:
Anathema - Judgement
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Summoning - Stronghold
Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black

Great stereosystem music:
Amon Amarth - Versus The World
Testament - The Gathering
The Crown - Deathrace King
Vader - Litany

my general perception of this is that well-produced or heavy ass fuck music goes well on a stereo system whereas more atmospheric music with emotion sounds better in headphones.

Headphones
Devin Townsend
Strapping Young Lad
Opeth
Tool/APC
Burzum
In Flames
Nevermore

and the rest, i dont really care. Their are only a handfull that i overly prefer on headphones.

THRASH, POWER, SPEED. Whether it be on headphones, speakers, car stereo, or MY MIND.

I'm listening to Omen - Battlecry right now.

Maybe I'll listen to some BATTLEROAR next. Or perhaps some Manilla Road. Or maybe I'll go Death Metal and listen to Obituary - Slowly We Rot. Maybe, just maybe, I'll listen to some Poison (the German Thrash band, you cunts).

i tend to prefer speakers. although i am currently listening on headphones.

to state the obvious, speakers are best, but use headphones when there is other noise to block.

I basically used a quality pair of headphones for around four years up until I recently bought a new stereo system. I prefer most thrash and death at extreme volume levels through the stereo, IE: Exodus - Bonded By Blood; Exhorder - Slaughter in the Vatican; Entombed - Clandestine; Nocturnus - The Key. And I tend to find most black metal - especially stuff like Goat Horns - to sound better through headphones.

I usually use headphones for black metal as well.

I guess that all depends on the volume range of the recording as I've found that albums driven with more bass always sound better through stereo.

Other deliciously enjoyable head-set listens...

NACHTFALKE - Land of frost
MORS SUMMA - Europa europae
RUNES OF DIANCEHT/HEGEMOON - Split

loud, loud stereo for most everything, except:

albums that are very spoken-word intensive like PoS' BE and Ayreon's Human Eq.
or albums with a lot of panning like Porcupine Tree

I tend to pick up a lot more through my headphones, though my stero probably has the most complete sound. Too bad it refuses to play half my CDs, which aren't scracthed cuz they play in any other CD player I put them in. I hate listening to music out of my shit computer speakers...

I mainly listen to the heavy stuff on the stereo at a nice and loud volume. If it's black metal or electronic stuff, I prefer headphones to pick up the little nuances
