Local news

The aforementioned rains have caused immense floods all over the country.
One of the pics made from an army helicopter:

Several people have died, around 700 evacuated and a good part of the country is in blackout.

This part of the country is dry because it's on higher altitude, but it's damn creepy.

P.S. I still can't figure out why linking pics and videos doesn't work for me...

You have floods -- we have severe drought and fires:

That's about 10 km from the bar that Amorphis played in back in 2008 in San Marcos. Lots of homes going up in flames:

100 km away from us, but we are getting a bit of the smoke:

And we're lined up for severe thunderstorms tomorrow if convective inhibition will give in during the day. Supercell composite parameter (SCP) has an amazing value of 6 in the west; in North America you can reach values of 10 and up. I've never seen anything like that for Finland.

The rains have finally stopped and the evacuation is nearing its end. The water is also slowly retreating. All the help sent from various nations, as well as voluntary forces and donations have helped prevent the flood in several towns and secure all the refugees, but the news still aren't good.
The town of Obrenovac is basically no more. It's completely evacuated, and the good deal of it is literally under water. Even the higher buildings. According to news, rescue boats need to go carefully through the water in order to not hit a roof of a house or chimney underneath them. The death count has not been presented yet, for some reason, but the material damage is estimated to be over 100 million €.

That's probably not the worse. Profiteering is everywhere, with prices of bottled water and rubber boots reaching astronomical heights.

And in my part of the country, barely 500km away, it's sunny and warm. I almost feel bad because of it.

Edit: In case somebody wants to donate:

Finland registered nearly 20 000 lightning strikes in two days (13 000 on Monday), more than twice over our May average. While Monday was dominated by MCS thunderstorms, Tuesday brought a supercell outbreak, thankfully without strong tornadoes. Damaging winds in excess of 25 m/s (56 mph) and large hail were observed across the country on both days.

There is a Bulgarian Red Cross donations drive here. I've made a small donation, as I normally do for disaster victims, hoping that I will never be on the receiving end. But I am curious to see how much money people donated. Most likely the Red Cross will release some figures.

Red Cross probably will. They have certain credibility, unlike some.

Our government is, for the most part, consisted of major fucktards who use every opportunity for self-promotion, demagogy and responsibility denial - while being absolutely responsible for what has happened since they, basically, knew of the danger in advance, but no, they decided to act like smartasses and not go all red alert and shit - now there's a whole town wiped out, several villages, thousands of dead animals, and a yet unknown number of people who died (officially it's 33 - unofficially, over 500).

If there isn't a small revolution after all this chaos, I will be greatly disappointed. Fuck this country.

I apologize for my profanity.

And I thank you for your donation, trin, as well as everybody else who helped in any way. I feel some sort of responsibility to thank everybody who helped and who is helping all those poor people, unlike certain douchebags who are leading this country.

Yeah, I trust the Red Cross.
Our government is just like yours.

In other news: About half an hour ago we felt a massive earthquake. It was 6.8 Richter scale, in the Aegean Sea, according to the websites, but it was felt across Bulgaria as 5.8. Panic on Facebook is moderate, but, shit, i f*ckin' hate earthquakes!
Thank gods a dear friend of mine fixed my recently acquired CD cabinet to the wall, or it would have fallen...
Contrary to popular belief, cat slept through the entire thing.
Poured myself a large rakia - now everything is shaking, but I know why, so I am calm :D

It was felt here too, but I haven't felt it. For some reason, I always miss out when there's an earthquake and only find out later about it.
Haven't seen the news about it, I hope everything is okay in Greece and any other affected area.

You and your cat know how to deal with earthquakes.

Still hard to believe we just made it to the hockey world cup finals. Half of the credit goes to Switzerland, but still, in times like these any bit of good news is welcome.

"Average weather" is not in our nature's vocabulary right now, apparently:

EDIT: Yep, if Wednesday's forecast for Helsinki will be anywhere close, it will be an exceptionally cold day (once in 30 years).

Slamming his skull against the stage wouldn't have that powerful an effect tho. The thing's probably empty anyway.
Well written treatment, cheers to whoever did it.

Current weather here isn't as summerlike as last week, but nevertheless I'm in good mood since yesterday I graduated as a visual artisan; officially an artist now, heh. Nice after-party as well, no wonder why I feel quite a tired at the moment, too... ;)

Congratulations!

Hope the hangover treated you well...
