Seems weird, since that page says that Elrond wouldn't allow Aragorn to marry Arwen unless he was the King of the Kingdoms of Men..which he already was, if he wanted to, right?

Well yes, technically, though very few knew of his existence. And Denethor II, the steward of Gondor, wouldn't have yielded the throne to him. He needed to gain legitimacy before openly declaring himself. It was assumed to most that the line of kings was broken with the death of Arathorn.
 
Which is something I don't understand, because as the most powerful of the Valar, you'd think that even an enormous Maiar spider wouldn't be a threat to him in any way.
