Fucking NICE work here, dude! Thanks! I can do some preset kits in the Reason Drumkits 2.0 refill if you PM me the General Midi format file.

Slate and SD 2.0 are all the most realistic to me. Light years ahead of the rest IMO.

I have the Metalheads EZX if you want me to run the file through it.

I could probably hook you up with some more oif the AD presets, might be this weekend though as I'm pretty busy all day tomorrow. at least the metal/rock presets, some of the other ones like the hip hop and electronic are pure shit. Well, the metal/rock factory presets are mostly shit too hah. there's only like ten of each.

I posted this on the HC forum:

The problem with the MIDI file is that BFD doesn't like:

a) Your MIDI notes to be at 127 -- that immediately screws up the randomization engine which needs to be able to go up and down.. by using 127 you immediately lose 50% of the randomization.

b) Repeated MIDI values... while AMG is available to handle consecutive same values, in some BFD2 builds this has not been functioning 100%

With that in mind I scaled the MIDI 95% and then randomized the values by 3 in Pro Tools to create:

https://www.platinumsamples.com/videos/MIDI-File.mid

and then I loaded up Evil Drums Kit 1 using only the default preset and played it back... I created a video so you can see I didn't change anything:

https://www.platinumsamples.com/videos/EJB-Kit1.mov

The examples posted of our Evil Drums sound nothing like the default settings.

Thanks,

Rail

And hey cool of you to repost that! The original file was three drum solos compiled from superior and wrapped out of ez player so that's why they work the best with the toontrack stuff. But I wanted to post examples that were played by humans on an e kit so that's why I did that. I don't own evil or bfd, thats why it says "thanks to..." next to certain examples. I'm not home at the moment but I will put up the gm midi, superior and other maps when I get home.

The problem you'll run into is that all the different VSTi's like different levels... (I know we create content for all of them)... for instance Toontrack likes their MIDI to be at 127 - especially on the snare because the highest values are mapped to Rimshots... where the other apps use a dedicated note for all rimshots... and as posted before BFD2 prefers your highest level to average around 120.

EZPlayer also reduces the hihat artics when converting formats.

I recently posted a video which shows our grooves in 3 different VSTi's (Evil Drums in Superior and BFD2 flat without any effects, EQ or compression):

(We'll be redoing the AD section because of the snare panning)

Cheers,

Rail

And I have to say that video sounds a lot better than the stuff I heard around a year ago where you had someone playing an e kit through them on BFD. For some reason that example (no idea who played it) sounded REALLY machine gun on the high hats and I didn't care for it.

Anyhow, I took down the evil drum examples.

I'll be picking up evil down the road for sure (superior though, still not a fan of BFD 2).
