And I'm not talking about pornogrind sex lyrics, rather raunchy, tongue in cheek sexual references.
Anyway, how does everyone feel about these lyrical concepts in relation to metal music? It's not too common, especially these days, but I believe that it was well done by the old school bands (Scorpions, W.A.S.P., Def Leppard [pre-Hysteria], Accept, Judas Priest, Carnivore).
Also, why aren't love and sex used much as lyrical concepts in metal anymore? Was it just done to death in the 80's, or is it just simply inappropriate in a musical style obsessed with war, death, and violence?

Unless it's love and sex with a corpse it's gay.

Seriously though, love and sex work with old school metal, but not with agressive and angry music like extreme metal. What if Suffocation sang about kissing and love? They would be laughed out of town.

perhaps its not tongue in cheek but bands like celestia, eucharist have dealt with such themes....and a bunch of other, more gay bands like opeth

Maybe some off use are depressed lost misdirected anti-social losers and don't want to hear about someone that seems like they enjoy something. I'm so pessimistic sometimes I don't even bother reading lyrics at all unless I know the person who wrote them is so misrable that if I met them we would just get so fucking drunk and talk about things we never do. As a guitarist i'm more concerned with how things sound rather than someone writing lyrics.

I want to be in love just like anyone but until i'm in love with someone i'm just going to listen to music that sounds like death. If a band talks about love i'm not going to read the lyrics. I live in a small town with nothing to do, it's depressing and boring. When your mental state is depressed and boring you are boring. Why would I listen to people that seem like they enjoy life and people and love. what is any of that. That is like something on TV. You see people walking on oceans on some island. What does that have to do with majority of the human population.

In Flames - Morphing Into Primal
Detonation
Fireworks and alchemy
Genes spliced and triggered
into the future and her organic cave

Seismorgasmic omnipotence
scenes of magma in my eyes
Eruption stones my system

I owe this to the animal inside
and the stiffness that blocks out the daylight
Morphing into primal

I'll cover every particle from there to Andromeda
not forgetting a single location
from the throat of Ibis to the co-ordinate of Matterhorn

My shot is genesis and catharsis
Penetratonaut in a cosmology of lust

Suck this subterrenean creature out
and show it proudly to the house of heaven
With one slight wave of my hand star dissolves

Dissolve my brain
Block my lungs
I'll die from fever tomorrow
when locked in sych a perfected "now"

I still to this day curse Erik for pointing this out. I was perfectly happy not being in any way aware of the lyrics of this song.

The only newer metal band i know of that does this is Rammstein.

Yeah, their older material dealt with sex kind of comically, but now they've taken it more seriously than I'd prefer.

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio are very sexually oriented, with S&M, orgies and lyrics dealing with homosexuality, sexual freedom, etc. Might seem off-putting and ghoulish at first glance, but the music and vocals are excellent(they play ritualistic neo-folk if anyone cares) ah nevermind it says in metal songs[edit]

Maybe if kate beckinsale gave me a blowjob I would not be into cemetaries, corpses, oldschool death metal and things that are creepy and weird too people!!!

i'm not kidding.

If I was on Ecstasy and had a life supple of percocet i would listen to pop music that is all about emotions,etc... i'd be happy all the time and smile.

I like listening to metal/hard rock ballads from 80s/early 90's

stuff like pantera's "cemetary gates", "floods" - metallica "fade into black" "the unforgiven" "nothing else matters"

listening to metal doesn't mean you have to seclude from society

on a daily basis, only maybe 5 or 6% of the people I talk to listen to heavy metal - learn to make metal a part of your life, not your lifestyle

i dont know why you have this idea that the sort of people who listen to mainstream pop music are all smiley and happy....often people who buy into that shit are some of the unhappiest people, even thoug hthey may hide it better than you

There are some metal bands that handle positive, loving emotions quite well. For instance the ever-powerful Lykathea Aflame's lyrics deal with hope, strength, love (not really sexual though), etc.

Maybe. I'm not going to listen to something happy to give me a sense of hope or security. Maybe that would be more comforting and people do that to not face the truth or feel as bad as they do. To me this just seems like a lie or denial. I can't subject myself to that lifestyle. I want to be happy,etc.. but comforting myself with happy music is not a real step to gaining happiness. You must have to change in your reality. My taste in music reflects on my lifestyle and how I feel. I don't let something change my emotion or take interest in something sharing the opposite emotion. That's not my emotion if I did. That would be covering and prolonging an emotion so you could forget about your actually state and how you feel longer never doing anything that you want. Wasting a day in false happiness and hope is just a wasted day that maybe you could have tried to achieve real hope or happiness. Music is just image. Sometimes I will not listen to music in the day so I know how I actually feel later on then listening to music reflecting on how I feel.
