Lovely Japanese ESP Signature Guitars

Not a signature, but I picked up this ESP Custom shop model from evilbay recently, Reindeer body shape which hasn't been made since about 03/04 and only ever available in japan. Thick mahogany body with a full inch thick maple top, which isn't bookmatched but a single piece! Ebony board, duncan JB in the bridge and lil '59 in the neck. Most amazing feeling and sounding instrument I've EVER layed hands on!

Looks like a beaut dude - though I think a full 1" thickness on the top might be pushing it - that guitar looks maybe 2.5" inches thick itself, and I just don't even see the point (nor have I ever seen) a maple top thicker than a centimeter or so

I hear ya - what I meant is that I worry about having too much maple because of how dense and bright it is; my Ibanez RG is neck-through with a maple core (mahogany wings), and that thing is ridiculously bright compared to my all mahogany ESP Eclipse. But if you like it, that's what counts, and it's certainly aesthetically pleasing!

Yeah I have a mahogany ESP Eclipse with a maple cap, and a mahogany Edwards explorer with no maple, to be honest the custom has a darker tone than both of them, much thicker and warmer but not overtly bright, which surprised me. It's entirely possible that it's because of the duncans in it, vs. the EMG's in the Eclipse/Explorer
