Low...no doubt about that. I think The Gathering did not go down well with me because of a lack of guitar solos I think. Somehow there was something odd with that album which prevented me from gelling with it. I returned it to the record store the next day.

I'm probably the only Metal fan on the planet who thinks "The Gathering" is totally overrated. Aside from "Eyes Of Wrath" (amazing!), the rest of the album is a bit repetitive and boring. Obviously the personnel in the lineup are legendary, but the overall finished product is a bit lacking.

"Low" on the other hand, is amazing start to finish. Heavy as hell but with amazing melodic solos, and as the one dude mentioned, Trail Of Tears is just a fantasticly brilliant song. Love this album.

Why is this such an impossible opinion? Murphy is totally under-utilized on the album and it really could be a number of other guitarists playing instead of him. He really didn't put out his best work on TG in my (and others) eyes.
