well, "jew" is a confusing word in that it carries an enormous amount of connotations from cultural to religious and even ethnic in some cases. i mean practising jews, in general, the same way i might make reference to fish on fridays and catholics even though I'm one of two like-aged catholics I know who sticks to the no-meat thing during Lent.

really? i didn't know that. i thought it was a big thing for some reason. although i'm not jewish, so what do i know. i didn't really know much about catholicism either until my gf & I talked about it. and remember, like deadair said, i'm somewhat retarded.

btw, said piano teacher was not actually jewish, but we didn't know at first. the meal was planned after learning he was not. the name just made for a good story.

I think the perception it's a big deal has to do with hypersensitivity...if you offer a pork rind to someone and he's Jewish, then most of the time he probably won't care and eat it, and the rest of the time he'll be cool with saying "No, thanks." It's not some kind of huge insult like OH MY GOD HOW COULD YOU DO THAT, except to like 1% of the Jewish population out there. I think if I ever saw a Catholic getting all huffy about being offered a hamburger on Friday I would beat the crap out of them for it.

I LEARNED SOMETHING TODAY!
