Lyrical phrases that for some reason get to you

To be honest, I've never bothered to read Opeth lyrics, cause the lyrics themselves don't really connect with me.

Just remembered that my signature quote is actually from a really cheesy Symphony X song (The Accolade) chorus. But hey, here goes:

Into the morning sun
Down his chosen road he rides to
save the world
Cross of crimson, robe of white
Sworn to the quest for the rest of
his life

Play shields and wooden swords
Slaying dragons as a knight of
Arthur's Court
Trained to kill, to sing a song
Youthful hope to right the wrong

Sons of Antioch
An angel's voice cries out to him
Free the holy lands,
bring peace to it again

Across the seas through sands of time
Knight of the Templar
A charging steed through lands unkind
A legend forever

Yup, cheesy stuff, but I kinda like it!

Love those lyrics and that song.

Like snowfall, you cry a silent storm
Your tears paint rivers on this oaken wall. . .
Amber nectar, misery ichor
. . .cascading in streams of hallowed form
For each stain, a forsaken shadow

And the lyrics in all of "You were but a ghost in my arms". I also love the vocal passage at the end of Bloodbirds, "Our fortress is burning against the grain of the shattered sky" etc.

Josh Haughm certainly has a way with words.

It's John Haughm, but I agree with you! :)

"What could be better? The homies together. So won't you come clean?"

I don't know the name of the artist. The song was playing on some tv show. The lyrics are obviously dealing with homosexual issues.

Symbolic (Death)

I close my eyes
And sink within myself
Relive the gift of precious memories
In need of a fix called innocence

When did it begin?
The change to come was undetectable
The open wounds expose the importance of
Our innocence
A high that can never be bought or sold
....
Savor what you feel and what you see
Things that may not seem important now
But may be tomorrow

Nothing Is Everything
Look deep in their eyes
For what they have to say
Emotions take control of life everyday

God dammit, that man was a genius

the leper affinity and deliverance have some godd lyrics.

FOr instance deliverance:

Mercy in my eyes
Is the shade of the night

very clear metaphor reallyit is perhaps not the most "beautiful" or "good" (Define "good") but its nonetheless very clear and above all, easy to understand. Basically the whole deliverance song stands out as easily understood but still maintaining the "lyrical atmosphere"

Between love and hate
Which path to follow?
How can I keep balance in this race?
Come faith, I'm dying...

Amused by the trials and tribulations
If I survive I fly from here
But as the chosen pessimist

I carve my name in stone

felt like posting it in this thread too. I know, the song sucks.

Dream Theater - Lines in the Sand

Sometimes, if you're perfectly still
You can hear the virgin weeping
For the savior of your will
Sometimes, your castles in the air
And the fantasies you're seeking

Are the crosses you bear

Sacred conflict, blessed prize
Weeping crosses, stainless eyes
Desperate addict, faith disguised

Swept away with the tide
Through the holes in my hands
Crown of thorns
At my side drawing lines in the sand

King Crimson - Epitaph

When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
As silence drowns the screams.

And Mike isn't the greatest lyricist in the world - but for me the ending of Demon of the Fall is one of his best moments. Also, that Agalloch quote was the first thing I was going to put here ;)

DJ NastyFire feat. 50 Cent & DJ Tiesto - Lyrical Phrases

"I suggest that we post only a couple of "lyrical phrases"
instead of whole song lyrics
and I would also like you guys to express
why (some reasons)
these lyrics get to you.
"

these lyrics always get to me.. for some reason

From Katatonia - Brave

The sound of falling
When the pictures are moving
Between the memories
Dead in time

The way Åkerfeldt sings those lines just make them so damn great.

From Ghost of Perdition;

The incoherent talk of ordinary days,
why would we really need to live?

From Fantasia (Stratovarius);

What kind of man kills
because of ideology?
What kind of god justifies
violence?

From Honey & Sulphur (Cradle of Filth);

Jesus saves but the devil made him.

he's sitting in his room
the razorblade's shining in his hand
he's sitting with a oneway ticket to nomansland
He's thinking of his life
hated by many, loved by few
he's thinking of the way he chose to go

but you do know that
everyone loves you
everyone loves you
yes everyone loves you

when you're dead.

This is my favourite song lyricwise, roughly translated from Swedish, not as powerfull in gay english :kickass:
Dia Psalma - Alla älskar dig.

I quote myself.
This whole MJ-thing is exactly what this song is about.
I dislike just about everyone right now for pretending to be his biggest fan, even though they hated him before.
PEOPLE ARE GRINDIN' MY GEARS! :(

Anathema - One Last Goodbye (pretty simple, still great):

Somehow I knew you would leave me this way
Somehow I knew you could never, never stay
And in the early morning light
After a silent peaceful night
You took my heart away
And my being

In my dreams I can see you
I can tell you how I feel
In my dreams I can hold you
And it feels so real

For me it's not about that...i never was a fan, i just think it's weird when somebody you've heard about through your whole life dies, but i never said it made me sad.
I know for a fact that everyone in this forum has somekind of personal experience or impact involving michael jackson.
