\m/ MAYHEM \m/

This is what I think:

When two key members of a truly legendary band are dead, it sure does seem a tad money-hungry for the remaining members to gather old members (Necrobutcher was even kicked out of the band by Euronymous for being too "normal" or something) to 'resurrect' Mayhem with totally different music and a totally different attitude I think they would have done better in just letting Mayhem rest in peace as the legends they were instead of defiling their memory with something completely unrelated to Euronymous' (the unquestioned "leader" of Mayhem) original vision

I see your point

It's strange when someone you know dies though, thing's never are the same as they were, yet thier spirit still comes forth , and some spirits never seem to die. Maybe, could be wrong again, this is what sparked the fury of Mayhem again. I don't know.

Well, I hope thier purpose wasn't to defile Mayhem. I know I wasn't expecting anything new by Mayhem. It was weird they were together at first, but I enjoyed thier show in Millwuakee 3 years ago, yet it wasn't the early Mayhem, it was cool as hell.

@phyre: My point was that less people would be arguing about the new sound of MeyheM if they had changed their name into something else....

As for Maniac and Hellhammer...... of course they were not in the first line-up.... (ok, my mistake) but they were members in the early days...

Dead - Mayhem's best vocalist, its a shame he blew his head off before they recorded De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.
Maniac - Pretty bad in the old days, but listenable, up until GDOW i found him to be rather weak sounding, but now his rasp is pretty good.
Grand Declaration of War - Not really pure black metal, but a damn good album. Its technical, flows great and has tight production.
De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas - Excellant music and lyrics, Attila has the stupidest sounding voice in metal though, so he comes close to ruining it.
Attila - Should never sing in another band again.

No. You don't see my point. You claimed that I attack Mayhem because they are not "true to the original blue print of black metal". This is utterly false statement.

Ormir, take it easy, I wasn't referring to you...

I was referring to the first 3 pages of this thread. Have a look and you'll see what I mean (hopefully). The last couple of pages have been great; some really good discussion where opinions are backed up by reasons and ideas. Check out the difference!

Now I'm going to see if tickets really are on sale. In the store the guy said not for another week, but on the radio they said Mayhem tickets are availble now. :flame:

Occultus is missing from your list. He was the first replacement of Dead for De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, and actually joined the band to become a permanent member as opposed to just a session one. Something went wrong however, and Euronymous kicked him out. Two songs from the rehearsal with Occultus can be found on the internet, "Freezing Moon" and "Funeral Fog".

This is is relative quality to the other vocalists:
Dead - 10
Occultus - 6
Attila - 5
Maniac - 1

Dead is by far my favorite vocalist. I saw Mayhem live last year and Manic actually look like Marylin Manson with his vinyl clothes and paint. The drum on GDOW is good but the music sucks! I hope their next offering wont be in thesame direction.

Well, last Thursday (12.9.02) Mayhem played in Melbourne and it was absolutely phenomenal.

Maniac owned the staged, swaying about like a sleep walker, while Blasphemer and Necro went nuts on either side of him.

The new stuff blended in with the old, and the black metal atmosphere was so palpable you could taste it!!

All the best tracks were played:

Freezing Moon, Pagan Fears, From the Dark Past, View From Nihil, Carnage, Deathcrush, Chainsaw Gutsfuck, Pure Fucking Armegeddon...

plus about 10 others.

A fantastic show from a band seemingly in their prime live.

The instore was cool too. I got my Grand Declaration of War c.d signed by all the members, and my housemate got his Arcturus c.d signed by Hellhammer.

A fucking good day all round.

I feel sorry for you man... if it's any consolation, Australia basically gets nothing too. In the last two years we've basically got Mayhem and *cough* Cradle of Filth from overseas. That isn't much over two years (but it is something, I know :) )

Mayhem are playing in Perth, which is about 2 or 3 times as far away from Melbourne than New Zealand, so I don't know either man...

yes, got also some pix and a good feedback from their gig in Melbourne ...
heard also that Dark Funeral cancelled their tour there, crushin'bad new ...

Is the live sound recording on 'Mediolanum Capta Est' as good and clear as the one on 'European Legions'?
