i was somewhat stunned indeed as i browsed through the board and didnt really find any post about the background of mabool. (ok, i didnt look THAT accurate, but hey...)

so here is what some friends and me thought about

i mean hey: it's pretty obvious that the three represent the three religions islam, jewism and christianity.

They bore faces of animals
A Snake, an Eagle & the Lion
compare to ezekiel 1:10:
"each of the cherubim had four faces: one face was that of a cherub, the secont the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle"
The first was known as magic
and he bore an enchanted heart
A Star of David upon his crest
was his eternal mark

obvious: judaism = that snake. (star of david)
i found a website which says that the safis are somewhat the "fathers" of the jews... or just like a large family... and the safis had the snakes as THE representants. and: all the staffs are symbol for a snake..
other things about the snake i found here:
http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/serpent.html

then:

The second was strength,
half a moon was he
A triangle he adorned,
a sword for all to see

about the eagle i have found the following:
the torah says God will take the islamics on the wings of eagles to the holy land when the time has come
also compare http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/eagle.html

then:

The third was Lion wisdom
a mind unmatched
Represented by the cross
the white was his essence
A crystal his defense

well this seems as the most obvious to me. (maybe that's because im a christian by myself? ;))

the lion whose roar was heard allover the world (quote from mabool lyrics)
represented by the cross (clear) the white was his essence, the crystal his defence... seems obvious to me and there is also a nice analogy to LOTR ;) we can debate of course about the quote "mind unmatched" up there hehe
biblic background: http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/lions.html

well, this was it for me for now

hope on lots of reactions and a cool discussion

Hello and welcome :)

Thats a great point of view!! I was happy to read the way you found it.
We found that there are more then 50 flood stories in ancient cultures and according to that decided to make the version of Orphaned Land's flood story.

The flood is the perfect concept for Orphaned Land - if we see our land as the Holy Land, the Promised Land, by having a never ending bloodshed in turned to be an Orphaned Land, and nature is simply like us, once the land got in dirt, it has to be purify, therefore the Holy Land that turned to be an Orphaned Land will now be purified by the flood (Mabool) and will turn to be an Ocean Land.

We did use motives from the "Resurrection" prophecy of Yehazkel as it was the first OL band's name :)

The 3 heroes are originaly made of the same soul which was divied into 3, 7 is the creator of all, the marks of the 3 are (check also the triangle of the 3 at the album's booklet!)

Lion, Wisdom, Christian Cross, Nomber 1, White colour, Daimond
Eagle, Force, Moon of Islam, Nomber 2, Red colour, triangle
Snake, Magick, Star Of David, Nomber 3, Black Colour, Heart

The motives from the "story of the three" are inspired from a true story that happend to our childhood friends who were communicating with a very powerfull spirit who gave them this information and sort of prophecy about their mission that we tell in Mabool album.

I can assure you this, let us unite as one, and with the wings God will send we'll fly into the end :)

thx a lot for this reactions on my thoughts.

i have just seen an analogy to the history of the religions (progenitor abraham) and thus made me to dig a little deeper.

i think already the fact that some friends and me took the bible and the coran, sat down and started to research a bit the background a checked indicies, already that makes Mabool an awesome album. i found it very interesting, and now i even find it more interesting. and the music is simply fanciful, stunning and simply brilliant. i really do love the way how you hooked the story into the album. its... amazing.

but i dare to ask a maybe edgy question:
you said that your childhood friends were communicating "with a ver powerfull spirit who gave them this information ". now who exactly gave that information? i didnt really get if twas a person or something else

yours sincerly

Back then, those 3 friends were making "Sianses" and they had a very powerful Nomerological match up, a fact that created enough power to invite a powerfull spirit (I will add that this things are not recomanded to try at home by anyone!)

The spirit that they communicated with introduced her self as "Pearl" and she claimed to be the pearl on the magick stick of Algel Gabriel.
The 3 friends and their sessions became into a cult in my hometown and they were only kids, but they knew how to read eachothers thought and they had some apocaliptic dreams, they even started to have followers of people that believed in what they do.
It was very fast that they started to get freaked out from it (they were only kids) and they went to some Kaballah Rabi who released them from this spell.
The whole sessions was documented into note books and when we workd on the album's concept we (the band) together with them had some sessions into the night and it was very mystic and intresting, I had no doubt that this was the whole goal of what they were doing - I knew that thir story is the inspiration for creating OL's Flood story's heroes.

i think its cool. spirituality and myth are something that seem to get lost in our today's logic and rational world. and when they are given the chance the live up, the establishment commercialises it that much that it gets "lost again" (->LOTR).

me for my side i enjoy spiritual thing and wouldnt want to miss them indeed

yours sincerly

oh and thanks a lot for the music. i love it.

I'm new in the forum and a new fan of Orphaned Land. Like Kaduth i'm very interested in the background of Mabool and my question is if you took the story only from the three guy or if there are books that speak of the argument.

Excuse my english

P.S.
very good and "magic" album
