Maiden's "Early Years" DVD

Gets my vote for one of the best music DVD's out there. I found a copy at Circuit City today for $16.00 !!! It's like 5 hours long on 2 DVD's for 16 bucks, what more could you want.

This is easily the best 'band' DVD after the Led Zep set! Not only are the shows GREAT (4, in all), but the documentary is spellbinding!

Awesome band, awesome product.
The Di'Anno footage is a real treat, as well!

Is this released after Visions of the beast? And yes that Led Zep totaly rocks! :worship:

according to the website, the next one is going to include Live After Death. I can't wait for that. My girlfriend is going to get The Early Years from Best Buy for me.

Haven't been around for a while...anyway, got my copy today....FINALLY! For $14.99 at towerrecords
No words, just :notworthy :notworthy

Sounds pretty good! About time they released something worth buying dammit! :loco:

Yeah, I totally agree!
I was so thrilled when the news came out that this DVD will be released, I saw Rainbow footage earlier as well as parts of Ruskin Arms, Dortmund and Hammersmith concerts on 12 Wasted Years (another killer documentary of theirs!).
One thing puzzles me, when Derek Riggs tells his story in the documentary on DVD, why wasn't it filmed new, but the old 12 Wasted Years footage inserted instead? Are they in some kind of argue?
Can't wait the sequels to this release, at last Live After Death and Maiden England will see the light of the day on proper DVD! And let's hope for some leftovers from those videos... ;)

EDIT:
I see that few of you bought the DVD for as low as $16.00.
Where did you find it at such a low price? On Amazon it's offered for some $45! :hypno:

Yeah, after the huge let down Dance Of Death was or pointless releases like Visions of the Beast or the Edward The Great CD, this is awesome. I really look forward to Maiden England as well, that was an amazing concert.

While I do agree on DOD and Edward The Great, I don't find "Visions..." that pointless. I think it's a nice "all the band's videos at one place" package...

I'm one of the few fans who LOVES "DOD".

Sure, the production is amongst the worst ever committed to major label "vinyl",
but the songs (most of them) kick total ass!

"Dreams". Ok, yes, this song sucks. It's almost as bad as "Bring Your Daughter" or most of the crap on "Fear of the Dark".

"Rainmaker". One of Maiden's BEST SONGS EVER. Period.

"No More Lies". Sure, it's a case of 'been there, done that', but it's still an enjoyable listen.

"Monstegur". Great, traditional Maiden barnstormer!

"Dance of Death". Aside from the trite lyrics and some botched vocals by Bruce (the dreaded "wrapping" he does here), it's a good song.

some filler, then on to "Pachendale", a GREAT Maiden epic. This IS just as awesome as other Maiden epics "To Tame A Land", "Caught Somewhere in Time", "7Th Son", "Phantom", etc.

"Face in the Sand". AWESOME SONG! In Maiden's top 10 ever!!

another filler tune, but slightly better than any maiden filler.

"Journeyman". Ok, it does drag on a bit, but it's a great tune!

Overall, 8.5/10 stars!

Well, I wouldn't really say "few", I'd say that the opinions are equally divided...

"Dreams". Ok, yes, this song sucks. It's almost as bad as "Bring Your Daughter" or most of the crap on "Fear of the Dark".

Daughter is an okay party song, whereas I can't stand ...Dreams.
Not to mention the ugliest video in the world :yuk:

"No More Lies". Sure, it's a case of 'been there, done that', but it's still an enjoyable listen.

That repeating chorus really gets on my nerves... :)

Dunno, wouldn't go that far... Did you find that "home, far away..." part somewhat similar to "Heaven Can Wait"? ;)

Overall, 8.5/10 stars!

I'd reverse the first figure... ;)
The opinions are really divided, but I cannot find an anthologic song on DOD to save my life... As opposed to that, when I heard "Wicker Man" in 2000. my reaction was "My God, that's it! It's THE Iron Maiden". Whatever, to each his own...

Ranking Maiden:

1980 Debut - 10/10. Awesome record.
1981 Killers - 9.5/10. Another classic!
1982 Beast - 10/10. The classics keep on comin'!
1983 Mind - 10/10. Every song is great!
1984 Slave - 9/10. Classic!
1986 SIT - 10/10. In my view, their magnum opus!
1988 7th Son - 9/10. Great songs, but the production could be better.
1990 Prayer - 6/10. Their first "non classc".
1992 Fear - 3/10. Their worst release, by far.
1995 X - 8/10. Some great songs, but DREADFUL prodcution. Blaze can do MUCH BETTER than the sorry performance Harris got from him here.
1998 XI - 6/10. Three classics...and a bunch of useless filler.
2000 Brave - 8.5/10. Some classics, but some filler.
2003 DOD - 8.5/10. See above (but also with a DREADFUL prodcution).

Live
1981 Maiden Japan - 9/10. awesome! Too bad it's a not a full show.
1985 LAD - 10/10. Even with Bruce's off-key warbling, this is still a classic!
1992 Donnington - 1/10. One of the worst-sounding live records ever.
1993 Live/Dead Ones - 2/10. See above (but at least Dead One has a good set list).
2002 RIR. 8/10 Good, solid record. Great performances, lackluster mix.

We've got a major difference in opinion here...
Heck, it's more fun that way, else all would end with a bunch of "agree"s ;)
I can't stand X and XI, to me THOSE are the worst of Maiden, each with maybe 3 usable songs. OTOH, Fear has maybe 3 songs I'd erase from disc, the rest is fine by me...
