Has anyone here recorded in the studio and made it sound like an actual live recording?

I'm laughing even as I type this. I don't want to do it commercially, just for laughs.

If so, how did you do it?

One idea off the top of my head is to use a shit ton of drum reverb and create a fake room mic from all the instruments..

And (LOL) canned applause... hahahahaha.

Why not? These guys did it.

I drove my chevy to the ocean... but the ocean was dry.

is this really any more disingenuous than all the bands who record a "live" album or dvd only to overdub/sample replace/quantize everything after?

Elton John did this and it's on his classic albums episode. Very interesting to watch as they did a few odd things to make it seem live. Like having the crowd clapping be off the beat and things like that, pretty cool!
