Mars

Hey, I can see the damn thing! But there isn't much to see really, it looks like a big red shiny star, that's it.

Wait, a big red shiny star?? The commies are taking over!!!! :hypno:

In all seriousness, you're not missing much of it really. Unless you've got one of those huge telescopes somewhere, it looks really nothing more than a little red dot in the sky. Pretty unremarkable, considering it's a "historic moment".

As Dado said, you have to have a great telescope to see it. I was planning to go out of town, as I already said, but my source of a telescope failed, so I'll just stay home...

Right, it's just a bright star. The way they are talking about it, you're supposed to see the polar ice caps with binoculars (I don't think so!!!)
Anyway, I'm just thinking of the Neanderthals who looked up there 60,000 years ago and were saying "Hey Joe, check it out....what the f*** is THAT" :zombie:

the neanderthals probably didn't even notice it much more than we would if we hadn't heard anything about it happening.

Not like they had scientists back then to say, "look Neanderthals..thats Mars, its the closest it's been to the earth in 60,000 years..It won't be back around again until Humans are walking upright!"

Know that when you are looking to the stars, you're looking the past! so, getting the limit of distance tending to infinite, you can see how the World began!

The chances of anything coming from Mars, are a million to one, he said....'

Ah, Mars....bringer of War! Who remembers that comic about a man John Carter,or something? Scantily cled green women, fierce savage warriors, you know the deal...good times.

I climbed Mt. St. Helens the other day and some guys camped the night before climbing. I elected to stay at a bed and breakfast since it was closer to the take off point. I found out during the climb that someone had a telescope at the camp site and that Mars was so close. But that was far after the fact!!!!

Well anyway, Mt. St. Helens climb was absolutely awesome, so if any of you want to see pics, I created a simulation climb using the latest polygoniest technologies....
